Update on my celica

So, I posted about modifying my Celica some months ago, and here's the update.

I bought OEM-equivalent shocks (KYB for the front ones and TOKICO for the rear ones), as well as KYB stabilizer end links, KYB top mounts, bump stops and dust covers. For the springs, I bought the MTSTECHNIK -40mm ones. Everything went completely perfectly until the car touched the ground. The rear sat perfectly fine (even a bit too low, but within expectations), but the front sat at the EXACT same height, and I really mean EXACT. After driving a few kilometers, it was still at exactly the same height. So I had to cut 1.5 coils off each front spring, and now it's sitting at the ride height I like (maintaining approximately the same rake angle as originally).

Driving-wise, after a front wheel alignment (close to 0° toe and -1.5° camber), the car feels much sharper, more confident, predictable and performs much better. Although it's much less comfortable, the new suspension absorbs small impacts reasonably well. I've never heard any tires rubbing against the wheel arches (they rubbed before with the dead suspension). But there's one really big downside: every speed bump means first gear and no accelerating on the way out, because the rear is too light and stiff, and if it hits the ground hard, it hurts your soul 💀. I love how the car feels right now, and I don't regret it, especially since coilovers are completely illegal in my country. But if I had to do this again, I would probably spend a bit more and take the risk of going with the SEIKA coilover kit because of the adjustability. I don't regret my choice.

I also did the “basic” maintenance, including both driveshaft wheel side boots, HT leads, distributor cap, spark plugs, every fluid and filters, the timing belt and accessory belts, water pump, coolant, temperature sensors, OEM radiator cap, camshaft seals, thermostat, both clutch cylinders, front OE brake calipers, pads and rotors, and all four flexible brake hoses. I also painted the front calipers yellow for more horsepower 😂.

I installed a GT2i suede steering wheel and a personalized “celica logo” horn button, with a Sparco hub (buy a hub with the turn signal cancel mechanism; mine doesn't have that part, and it kinda sucks), and I deleted the rotten center exhaust resonator. It sounds much better now (the difference in sound and volume is only really noticeable above 2,500–3,000 RPM).

Im planning more mods but its hard to find the time (€€€) for everything 😂
