Beginnings of a FAQ about meetups:
- rules for publicizing a meetup on reddit platform
- what happens at these meetups?
- /u/solidified50 gave some general advice for starting a meetup and keeping it going.
- Meetups should be (mostly) free. Ordering coffee, similar minimum items from a menu excepted, but events that charge formal admission or an entry fee cannot be publicized here.
- Some meetups use a sign to give attendees an easy way to see the group and know which to join without too much embarrassment, etc.
SL Tribune, featured op-ed: Lacey Bagley, a BYU Ph.D. graduate, tells us it's fine to be your authentic self. Her journey includes being excommunicated for daring to claim her identity as a "queer mormon." Another fine instance of the LDS church not owning the word "mormon."
sltrib.comAnalyzingMormonism (short video): SEC scandal in a nutshell. $5 million fine for creating shell companies to hide assets of $180 billion. What would Jesus do?
youtube.comDan McClellan: let's take a look at bible verses (NIRV) that have been selected for students to read in Texas public schools due to a recent change in state law. If this is presented as comparative religion, we need something that doesn't groom toward the Christian Nationalist's agenda.
youtube.comNicholas Alahverdian (1987-2026): volunteered for an AMA at exmormon in 2015 (now deleted); as a fugitive faked his death in 2020; extradited to the US and convicted of rapes in 2025. It is probably wise to ask to see the corpse.
en.wikipedia.orgDan McClellan (short video): The bible is far from being univocal. If you need your deity to be a member of a polytheistic pantheon (i.e. Smith's final incarnation of mormonism), simple pick the verses you need to make it happen.
youtube.comSL Tribune: featured op-ed: Veronika Tait, a BYU Ph.D. graduate, tells us in order to really assess a situation, bias and compartmentalization must be set aside in favor of the scientific method. Nicely said!
sltrib.comAnalyzingMormonism (short video): prominent LDS apologist attempts to soften offensive chastity rhetoric. Two big problems: (1) Alma 39:5 exists and (2) it has been widely quoted from the pulpit and in books. For example SWK’s "Miracle of Forgiveness," ch. 5 is titled “The Sin Next to Murder.”
youtube.comBart Ehrman (short video): I'll take Christianity for $100, Alex. The answer: It is the art of selecting doctrines you prefer over those you do not like.
youtube.comDan McClellan (short video): Apologetics vs. Academics in a nutshell. Insert obligatory Holland (I'd like to hear some musket fire...) and Packer (Some things are true which aren't useful...) quotes.

SL Tribune, op-ed: Q. All church members working with youth in the UK must pass background checks. Why isn't the LDS church out in front on this issue worldwide? A. Obviously, their wallet comes before victims.
sltrib.comAnalyzingMormonism: A report on Lucy Mack Smith's tour in Nauvoo in 1843. After paying admission, Smith's mother presented items from the $2,400 Egyptian hoard, including mummies and tidbits from the papyrii, possibly adding her own spin—the "snake on legs" is the serpent in the garden tempting Eve
youtube.comDZDebates: A Latter Day Saint (Mormon) embarrasses himself with a pathetic attempt to confine the meaning of scripture—to be in effect for the smallest audience. Justin's pretzel twisting skills on display.
youtube.comLetter: Given the recent fiasco, it’s fair to ask: Do the actions of Utah’s representatives qualify as Christian?
