Please, I need more creature features
Hello! I want to share some of my 5 star reads that deal with monsters/fae/mermen or other non-human creatures. I’d LOVE to read more books like this but I feel like I’ve read them all 😢.
Here are my priors which may explain why I’ve skipped over some popular ones:
- Do not appreciate too much cozy/domestic/fluff
- The creature has to be mostly humanoid. Tentacles are usually a no-go.
- Can’t stand overly neurotic or silly MCs. Prefer my MCs to be smart and capable.
- PLOT! If here’s well defined lore I am so down. Political intrigue even better. That said, there must be a balance with dialogue. Don’t want to read a Wikipedia article.
- Sex can be sparse in quantity but it must be detailed and spicy when it happens. For example, I really liked {Sent to a Fantasy World Now All the Men Want Me by Jaclyn Osborne} but the sex was surprisingly bland. Like how can DP be vanilla and boring??? She managed it. Otherwise would have been a 5/5 for me.
Thanks for hanging with me here. Now for my 5⭐️ favs list (in no particular order):
- {Moth by Lily Mayne}
- {Adonis by L Sherleen}
- {Mortal Skin by Lily Mayne} (loved 3/4 of book two but it just got too long)
- {Kit by L Sherleen}
Honorable 4.5⭐️ mention:
{The Fall of the Orc by Finley Finn} this was really great but a bit too silly? Stakes didn’t seem very high. Loved the MCs though.
Does anyone have anything for me? I’d also welcome AO3 recommendations (no Harry Potter, please).
Thank you!!
