Coming up on 6 years with the OG 2020 Hype Watch
It’s been really cool to see the BB58 blue posted more and more on here. It’s been my daily for almost 6 years. This watch was so hyped back in 2020, but quickly seemed to drift into an iykyk status. Tudor was hitting a lot of home runs back then and I’ve noticed a lot of Tudor fans seem to chase the newest releases while dumping their older models. IMO it really does take spending time with this watch to appreciate how special it is; how the blue dial and bezel play with the light, going from a vibrant blue in the sun to an almost midnight blue in low light. It perfectly balances vintage and modern in such an understated way, flying under the radar and melting into daily life.
Tudor as a brand is in a pretty cool transitional period. Taking a step back to see the forest through the trees, it’s almost guaranteed the brand is going to continue evolving and releasing slam dunk watches. I genuinely believe any standard size, configuration, and color way WILL at some point exist. I get so excited each year to see what they will rollout, but I often think about what it would have been like if people who purchased submariners back in the 50s and 60s, when the sub was evolving each year, were constantly chasing each year’s newest Rolex. Kinda silly when you think back on it and see that regardless of the year, nowadays any of those watches would be highly sought after vintage subs… I wonder if there will be a day when it’s the same for Tudor; this particular watch falling in that small window of COSC 58’s, a strange one at that releasing during a pandemic year. Regardless of what people think of it 50+ years from now, it’s been such a great watch, and I hope to still have it on my wrist if I’m still around then.
Stoned so pardon the rambling
