Basically it extends the features of the main web app, but I'm seeking advice, feedback, or anything as people who have experience in building this kind of app. Tell me, what would you do to improve it?

What the extension itself does is track what the user is watching through scraping streaming platform pages and store the data so that the user would always know what they watched and where they stopped (timing / episode / season).

I got tired of every watchlist app I tried turning into a digital graveyard. You save something, forget about it, save more, repeat. Six months later you have 400 titles and still spend 20 minutes deciding what to watch.

So I built WhatToWatch (whattowatch.fyi). The whole idea is three views only: what you're actively watching, when the next episode drops, and a smart pick for tonight based on your mood and what you actually have saved.

What it does:

Watching shelf - add titles, auto-progress as new episodes air. Only shows what's in rotation, not your backlog.

Schedule view - one calendar for every show you follow and movie releases. You can see exactly when to free up an evening.

"For Tonight" - you tell it your mood, how long you have, who you're watching with. It gives you 3 picks from your own library, not a trending algorithm.

Browser extension - detects what you're watching on Netflix, Prime, and Plex and syncs it automatically.

19 languages including Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, Thai with RTL support.

Tech stack: Expo Router (web, iOS and Android from the same codebase), NestJS, Supabase, TMDB for title data, GPT-4o-mini via OpenRouter for the AI recommendations.

Where it's at: Live at whattowatch.fyi, started building in April, free tier available with paid plans for AI features.

Android app is waiting for Google Play approval. iOS is still in development.

Two problems I'm stuck on and would genuinely love input on:

First - the Chrome extension took weeks to get through Google's review, and any small update resets that wait. Has anyone found a good way to work around slow extension review cycles, or is it just something you accept?

Second - the browser extension works great for detecting titles on Netflix/Prime/Plex in the browser, but I have no idea how to handle TV apps. The only idea I have is letting users screenshot their TV before watching and using AI to identify the title from the image. Feels clunky. Has anyone solved something like this?
