Hey UT99 lovers, tweaks question

Hey Magnus players, I have a question about the Shockwave → Skewer combo.

When I cast Shockwave, there seems to be a short window (around 0.5 seconds) while the wave is traveling when I can't use Skewer yet. If I miss that window, it creates really stupid situations where Magnus does nothing after using Shockwave because I press the Skewer button too early.
Is this normal? Is there a way to cancel the Shockwave animation and cast Skewer earlier, or do I always have to wait for the wave to come back?
Do you all really count the Shockwave timing in your heads to know when you can cast Skewer, or is there something I'm missing?
