Tawa t&g flooring install

I have a load of recycled 85mm tawa t&g ready to be laid. Planning to put it on top of the chipboard flooring which is over the joists. This will bring it level with the rimu in the kitchen.

Are hidden staples (15 1/2 ga) angled through the tongue with a floor stapler going to work for this?

My concern being that the tawa is possibly too hard or likely to split.

It appears the kitchen rimu was done this way though, and the chip board seems have held it in place.
