For those of you with a woodburner, what's the driest + cheapest storage solution you've found for outdoor firewood storage?

I have very little outdoor space and we're thinking about if we can get a woodburner. One of the problems to solve is how we'd store the firewood. We get pummelled with wind and rain where we live, so any timber would get sopping right away. We've got about 2m2 we could use right up against the weatherboard, I was even thinking about something like this, but taking out the shelving. https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/number-8-walk-in-greenhouse-h-195cm-w-143cm-d-73cm-black-green/p/340697 what are other people doing?

These are half the price of Rheem etc through Trade Depot.

Has anyone bought/installed one?
Will I get the side eye from my plumber/sparky?

Any tips/tricks for someone considering getting an external Heat Pump HWC?

Water coming into house underneath aluminium window?!

Has anyone had experience with issues with their aluminium window? There is a tiny hole in the windowsill that half weeps outside and half weeps inside (it should only be weeping outside). We only discovered this recently due to some rotten gib. Fortunately the structural elements are all sound/not rotten.

The gib has all been removed and today there is a lot of sideways rain. Now there is a bit of water underneath the window where the inner framing is. Somehow a bit of water is getting in basically and it feels tied to the window. When the builder came round to remove the gib, he suspected that it didn't have a flashing or wasn't flashed properly.

We bought this house 6.5 years ago but I think the previous owners got them installed. We're at a loss as to what to do.

Who would we contact in regards to this? We got double glazing installed a few years ago in regards to the other side of the house and we were really happy with the results, so we would be happy to use them again - if this is something a glazier would look at.

Slight predicament is that we're also a two story house so could be difficult to repair from outside, or would a full replacement be necessary?

Any advice welcome please... We're so unfamiliar with any building work/issues whatsoever so don't even know who to contact or what to do next. Thanks!

Draughty house and gaps in the doors when shut.

Hey guys, just bought a house and absolutely loving it. However… 1920s houses come with upkeep as we knew going into this.
Just seeing if anyone had some solid advice for the attached photos and how we can seal our little home to keep some warmth in.
Cheers

Screw size for Bakelite door handles.

Greetings

I haven't been able to get an intact one out and I don't want to damage them.

Does anyone know the size? I'm off to Bunnings tomorrow and surely they have something.

Anything is better than this.

EDIT Thank you everyone for your ongoing help.🌻

Did not make it to a Hardware store today but will listen to the advice regarding Mitre 10 also.

We had an amazing polder gentleman renovate our neighbours bungalow.

I may contact him as he apparently has a lot of stuff in storage and is a very knowledgeable person.

I have a 180l hot water cylinder, 3 person house. No solar (can't afford/ not enough equity for a green loan yet) but looking to switch to a time of use power plan to drop my power bills.
Keen to hear your experiences.

Help with laying concrete pad

https://www.tradetested.co.nz/p/sheds-carports/garden-sheds/resin-sheds/keter-darwin-6x4-shed-1-90m-x-1-22m-grey?utm\_content=paidsearch-pmax&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad\_source=1&gad\_campaignid=23026794893&gbraid=0AAAAADy2u0InKKS4p1SmqNcZj7EJ50SEn

Hey yall, so i got one of these garden sheds, size is 190cm by 122cm. I have dug out a rectangle into the ground slightly bigger than the fram i built for the concrete. The frame timber is 10cm deep so im thinking making the concrete that deepth.

Its going to hold a washing machine and dryer. The soil is quite soft so ive dug 30cm deep, do i need to use gravel or small rocks to lay down the base? Im thinking 10cm gravel and 5cm sand? I also have some small mesh i got for free id lay down.

When the cement is finished how do i make the surface nice and smooth? I seen some people will use the trout and smothen the top and edges but then i notice they come back a few hours later to spray some water and go over with a brush?

Also is this cement bags all right to use?

How to finish outside corners of tiled shower / plastering corner bead

Just had a builder come in and square the walls of our shower + install new gib. We need to finish the outside corners before the tiler comes in two weeks.

For the right 90° corner, do I just install a corner bead and plaster the outside wall only? I was told not to plaster inside the shower. The tile will be coming up directly to that corner

For the left corner, it's more like 130°. I'm assuming this one I'll just need to use a plaster tape and plaster both sides? This wall comes out to ~1045mm and the shower is 900 x 900. We could tile out to this corner if it'll make the finish easier, but may look a bit strange.

Also, should the ceiling gaps be filled with no more gaps/silicone, or fine to leave as is since it'll be filed by the tile adhesive and covered by the tiles? Tiles in the shower will be floor to ceiling

Tiles are 600 x 600

Replacement?

Hey guys, needing to replace this guy as I have no idea how old the filter is 🤢 but it appears to be a propriety “plug and play” system with a high price tag.

Question is - eat the cost and replace with same (are they worth the cost)? or replace the whole unit for a dual unit (ie Stefani) with cheaper replacement filters?

Thanks!

Toilet roll holder blues..

I have one of these which has fallen off the wall.

There's a little screw hiding in the wall bracket which I figure screws into that fat sleeve, but I don't know how to get that screw out to do that.

I assume the bracket comes off the wall giving access to that screw from the back, but the bracket doesn't seem to want to... Am I missing something, or does it just need a bit of welly?

TIA, and happy Sunday...

Matai flooring work in progress

I posted a month ago with a wee hiccup in my flooring restoration project. I've done a good bunch more and I'm finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. After sanding yesterday and today and a first coat of varnish this afternoon, I've decided I never want to do flooring finishing again!

How to calc floor rating?

We'd like to eventually line the walls and turn this into a rumpus room with more structured storage shelves. But how do I know how much weight up here is safe?

The space is above our garage. House built 2018. 450mm joists under the flooring. 1850mm from floor to ceiling. Roof looks skewed but it's the picture.

Or should I do it myself? Do I need to remove the bath to do it, or work around it?

Bathroom exhaust seal looks loose

There is small dripping from the shower exhaust fan, so I removed the cover and I notice moisture is getting stuck up there causing condensation. I see the seal is loose on one side of the duct, so I suspect this is the cause. I am new to homeownership so I want to understand how to fix and clean this. Any tips?

Showet: can I put sanitary silicone in this larger gap or must i use some other material?

Hi, ive removed all old silicone, cleaned it, but before i apply new - some parts of this shower has slightly larger gaps, maybe like half to a centimeter deep.

Do i just apply a larger silicone-stripe without stopping across the entire shower or do I put some material in these slightly larger gaps to support said silicone?

When I cleaned out the old there was no material, but it did seem like the silicone was just added deeper into these gaps and was able to hold everything fine in place.

Ty to all!

1980’s Kitchenette Asbestos?

Pulling the wall out in the kitchenette for obvious leak issue.
Haven’t dealt with this older kitchen material before. Is the wall paneling likely asbestos or is it not really seen in these sort of panels?
