20 Years of GI Issues, New Anemia
M, 54 I’ve been dealing with chronic GI issues for almost 20 years and I’m trying to gather ideas/questions to bring to my doctors.
Current diagnoses/findings:
- IBS
- diverticulosis
- unspecified colitis
- hemorrhoids
- hypothyroidism
- high blood pressure
- high cholesterol
- hiatal hernia
- inguinal hernia
- confirmed H. pylori infection
Main symptoms:
- exhaustion/fatigue
- left-sided abdominal pain
- nausea
- bloating
- mucus in stool
- blood in stool almost daily at times, sometimes heavy
Testing/procedures already done: (all normal)
- multiple colonoscopies
- endoscopy
- CRP
- fecal calprotectin
- pancreatic elastase
- IBD First Step panel
- TPMT genetic testing
Findings from procedures:
- several colon polyps removed over the years
- one sessile serrated lesion
- hiatal hernia found on endoscopy
- H. pylori confirmed on endoscopy/testing
One important detail: Most of these GI issues/symptoms have existed for many years. The anemia is newer.
Main concern right now: I already completed one full round of antibiotics + omeprazole for H. pylori but still tested positive afterward.
I’m trying to understand:
- what conditions/issues might overlap with persistent H. pylori and IBS-type symptoms
- whether others have dealt with treatment-resistant H. pylori
- what questions I should ask GI doctors next
- whether gut dysbiosis/microbiome issues are worth exploring
Not looking for diagnosis or miracle cures — just hoping to hear from people with similar experiences so I can better discuss things with my doctors. I'm tired.
