Cecropias Caught In The Act

Came across these mating Cecropia moths in Seacoast, New Hampshire several years ago. So beautiful. Definitely piqued my interest in these little creatures.

Can anyone ID?

Southern New Hampshire, USA. My 4 y/o daughter spotted this beauty on the sidewalk this morning and went to grab it thinking it was a Transformer or some sort of toy plane. Totally freaked her out when it started to flap its wings. (Don't worry, it was not harmed) It had a very unique shape to its wings. Something I have not seen before. Maybe 2.5 inches across. I've looked at some guides and have not been able to find out what it is. My daughter and I love finding and learning about the little critters we run across and I would love to be able to tell her what type of moth it was when she gets home from school today. Thanks in advance for any clues!

While I’ll give Cascade credit... their marketing department is doing a great job making this thing look incredibly cool but I still don’t get it. From what I can tell, the entire concept is that the facemask flips up to make drinking water easier. Beyond that, I’m struggling to see any real advantage.

There’s obviously no practical purpose for a flip-up facemask during actual gameplay, so it comes across as more gimmicky than innovative. I feel like equipment companies should be focused on developing gear that helps athletes perform better on the field or offers some kind of competitive advantage, not just something that makes standing on the sidelines a little more convenient.

Maybe I’m missing something, but right now I just don’t see the appeal.
