Bushwick Lacrosse

Does anyone want to start a Bushwick lacrosse group? Could be a team or just a bunch of people who want to toss around; everyone is invited!

What head is this?

Found this on Facebook marketplace (messaged the seller already), just cannot figure out what head this could be. It’s got some transparency. My limited knowledge has pointed me to women’s STX Ice series potentially? Or some sort of women’s Brine or DeBeer head? Any help is appreciated!

Stringing supplies

Does anyone use any “unconventional” stringing supplies? Do they work?

Is there a place I should look to get spools of sidewall string in various colors?

How to live best through my kid

My son is class of 2042. We have been working on sprints and I have him run a couple suicides everyday. We have been hitting 1000 reps a day on wall ball as well. How can I make sure he hits his 10,000 hours before age 6? Should we start coach visits now? ……is what half this sub sounds like

Playing Time and Value Proposition on AA Teams

Having watched my son play midfield on a 2030 AA team for most of the year, I’ve noticed there are a number of midfield players — including my son — who get 2-3 minutes a game. And these are good players who had multiple AA offers after tryouts. The first line is better, but the drop-off to the second and third line is not dramatic. This is a top-20 team in the country.

Is this just the nature of the game itself, given all the specialization — LSMs, defensive short-stick middies, FOGOs — that midfield minutes at a high level are simply this scarce?

Do other parents feel like this is a lot to put into a sport — the travel, the hotels, the money — to watch your son play 2 -3 minutes per game?

Practicing Complementary Skills

Coaches are always telling young players to get out & practice on their own. What I notice is players practice doing things that don't really make sense to coaches [at least to me] like spinning the stick in the air, throwing the ball 50+ yards at nothing, kicking the ball into the goal, etc.

I make videos like these for the few players I have who will watch them & learn what kinds of things they should be doing when practicing on their own. Specifically, mom or dad might want to get outside with their kid and practice, but might not know what kinds of drills to do, or why.

Tough to balance this more structured approach with the idea of keeping it fun for the kids [12 yr olds & older]. The reality is that kids who just play lacrosse just because won't practice on their own anyway (and that's okay!), and the ones who are more serious about it are less concerned with having fun for fun's sake.

Knowing kinds of things - style of play, knowing different areas of the field, how to create a shot for yourself, when to use the left or the right hand - is expected at the high school & college levels, so practicing with thse concepts in mind at a young age can help prepare the players to play at the next nevel.

Help me with this debate

I’ve been having this debate about summer club. My kid (3034) plays on the second team at the cusp of making the “AA” team. He has some friends are on the AA team but don’t see much playing time.

Is it better to practice with the better team and not play much in games? Or is it better to play lion share of minutes in games and not be pushed too much in practice?

My kid is loving club this summer and loves being depended on as one of the top players on his team. For example. He loves playing attack/midi but in games where his team needs his help on defense, he’ll pick up a d-pole and jump in. He’s happy; I’m happy. Just curious everyone’s thoughts.

Are youth national travel teams worth it?

I have a son who is a 2032 and plays defense/lsm. Our league wide team has a tryout coming up for its national travel team. Not sure if he would make it he is probably right on the boarder line of making a team like that. Personally I don’t care if he does it or not. I would never push him into it, but he has mentioned he wants to try out.

I just wonder if he is too young for that. He still plays other sports and I worry about lacrosse burnout before high school even starts. Also is that investment worth it with all the travel.

***Update****
Thanks for all the replies! I think we are going to skip the tryout. Focus on multiple sports still and maybe try and get him in a better regional club. Like I mentioned in a reply we are not in a lacrosse hotbed so I this is all new. My main concern is if he was missing out on better coaching or better reps. But it sounds like as at this age as long as they are getting reps against good competition it will help. And of course lots of wall ball haha. I’ll leave the post up for a while because it is a great discussion.

Suggestions to avoid lad irritation

Title correction: *pad" irritation

I'm playing in a men's league for the first time this summer, and I never played when I was younger. I'm wearing full shoulder pads (concession to my wife who isn't thrilled about me playing), and the bicep pad straps irritate my upper arm. I'm not in the best shape, and I'm sure losing weight would probably help, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for improving the situation for now.

Edit: Some clarification on the situation...

My wife is worried that I'll get hurt. She's from a lacrosse area and knows that people do get hurt, and news stories about the high school kids who die from the last couple years don't help. To help her feel better about it and make it easier on her, I'm wearing full pads - including the bicep pads that came in my shoulder pads and full sleeve are guards even though I'm playing a pole. It's not about what pads I'm required to wear, it's about wearing what makes her feel better.

The league is definitely full contact, we had some guys get blown up last night - though our opponents recognized the disparity in skill levels and toned it down as the game went along. People are shooting hard and fast, and I'm sometimes in the line of fire.

For all the people saying to either just ignore the agreement and lie to my wife, or to ignore her and do whatever I want, that's not helpful, doesn't answer my question, and isn't a good foundation for a healthy marriage. I'm not going to do it, don't waste the Internet space suggesting it.

Edit 2: I'm not taking the pads off. Please stop suggesting it. I'm asking for ways to improve the situation, not remove them. I know I don't have to wear them, I know I can take them off. Those comments aren't useful or helpful.
