We just moved and ended up with them again. Heat or chemical?
We lived in an apartment complex for 4 years, and during the 3rd year my fiance noticed bedbugs. The neighbor at the end about 5 doors down had an infestation, and fiance also slept at hotels consistently for work so its hard to pinpoint where they came from.
We had them come out and chemically treat about 3 times and it did nothing. Then we found out that neighbor wasn't allowed to renew because of the bugs, and I was having a baby so we decided to just ride the lease out and go.
The couch, dresser, and bedframe were taken to a junkyard. Couch was the majority of the infestation with some on the bedframe.
As we left, we sprayed with 91% alcohol and vacuumed every single thing that could potentially carry a bedbug, heat treated every clothing item we had, used totes instead of boxes, replaced all of our furniture but our mattress, cat tower and bookshelf (frames gone but we have 2 covers on it).
For whatever reason, fiance picked up a table from someone's trash. He claims it was fine because he treated it with alcohol and his vacuum.
First we spotted it in my daughter's car seat which had been sitting in the living room.
We had the complex send a professional, who in my opinion didnt look very throughly. He found one on my mattress and only treated my mattress chemically. He didnt see any in my couch, chair, baby's playpen so I think he assumed my living room was clear.
Since then we've seen one on my babies floor toy in the living room, and my fiances hoodie while he was wearing it. I also feel like im getting bit on my mattress when I sleep but have not actively seen one yet.
My complex is making us pay for this and I want to know if chemically treating the whole place or heat treatment is the best approach.
