I’m having a terrible time dealing with treating Mgen…

Due to some bad advice from doctors, side effects from the pills and various misleading results my treatment schedule this week has been disrupted. I had a confirmed macrolide susceptible strain and I’ve taken

- 7 days doxycycline
- 1g azithromycin day 1, 500mg day two
- the final 500mg azithromycin after a 2.5 day delay

So I have had the recommended 2g azithromycin as per NHS guidelines with doxycycline pretreatment … but with a gap in the treatment plan so extended over almost 6 days rather than 3.

How likely is this to have cured my infection?? I’m terrified that I’ve left a window for resistance to develop …

I’ve finished doxycycline and took a 1g dose of azithromycin last night. I’ve got 2 more 500mg doses to make it a total of 2g…

I’m paranoid about not clearing this though and so absolutely need this treatment to work. I noticed that US and Australian guidelines are for 2.5g azithromycin after doxy… should I be trying to somehow get an extra 500mg or is my dosage prescription still likely to work?

Any success stories from 2g azithromycin? Thank you!!!

Hey Reddit .. I’ve been prescribed azithromycin for an infection, but have done some research on this and learned that this class of drug is known to be ototoxic. My tinnitus is pretty mild but a bit unstable recently … so I’m of course terrified of taking something that will make it worse.

Obviously a lot of horror stories out there on the forums… but just wondering if people could share their experiences taking this and how it impacted their tinnitus? Anyone out there who’s taken it with no issues?

Trying to put my mind at ease as there aren’t any other good options to treat the bug I’m fighting!! Thanks

Hi everyone, I can’t quite believe I’m back here. 4 years ago I had a pretty rough experience treating Mgen, largely because of the side effects from moxifloxacin. But I got through it and was cured.

Last week I started to feel some minor urethritis symptoms again though, which totally freaked me out as I’ve been in a committed monogamous relationship for over 2 years… lots of panic and anxiety later and somehow I’ve been diagnosed with Mgen once again and I’m in disbelief… The only explanation is that me or my partner had it before our relationship and it’s only just started to show symptoms, which according to the doctors I’ve seen is biologically possible, if unlikely.

So anyway, I’m trying to stay as strong as possible but I’m of course terrified to be going through this again. I simply cannot take moxi again as I still have lingering side effects years later, so I’m wondering what treatment to push for. I absolutely need to give myself the best chance at curing this in one go…

I have tinnitus which got worse with moxi so I’m concerned about minocycline due to things I’ve read about it causing vestibular issues. So I want to try and get prescribed doxycycline followed by pristinamycin.

I’m based in London and wondering if anyone’s been prescribed this recently by any clinics or doctors they would recommend? And any general words of support or success stories from doxy + pristina combo would be really appreciated. Thanks!
