I need help. The doctors are not well informed about MGEN…

This is my second post. The doctor initially gave me 1.5g of Azithromycin without Doxycycline. I then went to another doctor who told me I should take both Doxycycline and Azithromycin for a second time—but this time, 2.5g of Azithromycin over 4 days. I am now on day 4 of Doxycycline, and I feel there is no point in taking Azithromycin again because any bacteria that survived the first round are likely resistant to it. What do you think? I‘m so angry that the first urologist made it worse by not giving me doxy at first

Did your symptoms go away or get worse on Moxifloxacin.

Hello, first time posting!

I was diagnosed with Mgen and Ureaplasma about 3 weeks ago. Urologist thought it was Interstitial Cystitis ( possibly still could be) but tested for Mycoplasma and ureaplasma just in case.

Symptoms started at the end of February and consist of burning in uretha, frequency and urgency, a pinching and burning feeling in clitoris. Burning in bladder sometimes. Before I was diagnosed I was watching what I ate since they were pretty sure it was IC. Watching my diet had definitely helped. Symptoms never completely disappeared but were pretty manageable to the point I could function on a day to day basis

They started me on 7 days of Doxy and then 4 days of Azithro. While taking the Doxyy my symptoms had pretty much gone away. I therefore started eating normally again, and right after the Doxy was done and I was on the Azithro my symptoms started coming back. I continued to eat normally ( not sure if that made it worse or not) and after a few days the symptoms felt a little worse. I messaged my urologist and they decided to put me on moxifloxacin for 7 days.

I was stressed out about being on it and probably did the dumbest thing i could have done and decided to have a couple drinks two nights before I started it. It was a huge mistake, I flared so badly the next day. The pain was unbearable. By the time I started the Moxi I was in alot of pain but shockingly enough felt better the day after taking it. So I assumed it was working. Had a piece of pizza and some barbecue wings that day and later that night the symptoms started to flare up. I've had 4 kids and that is the absolute worst pain I have ever had. It felt like a very very severe UtI.

Went to the ER. they put me back on the Doxy (since it helped before) along with the Moxi. It really hasn't helped, I have been having symptoms all week. Urgency and frequency and a pinching feeling and sometimes a burning feeling in my clitoris. Not nearly as bad as the night I went to the E.R. I felt okay yesterday, I've been pretty afraid to eat but I did end up having some Chipotle last night. Nothing crazy, chicken, rice, lettuce and beans. But i realized halfway through scarfing it down that it had a little spice to it and maybe it wasn't a good idea I was eating it. Sure enough, woke up this morning with the tip of my uretha having that very specific burning feeling you get when you have a Uti. The Urgency is worse and my bladder is burning.

Has anyone ever experienced this on moxifloxacin to where your symptoms didnt get better while taking it but maybe got better after? Did you experience food sensitivity with Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma? Or had IC and Mycoplasma diagnosed? Tomorrow is my last day on it and I feel so frustrated that I am still having symptoms. Probably safe to say my diet is playing a role

Should i take Moxi?

This situation feels a bit complicated, so I want to explain it clearly.

My urologist prescribed me Azithromycin without Doxycycline, and I finished the last pill on May 5th. After reading more about treatment options, I found out that Doxycycline is often taken first for 7 days before Azithromycin.

Because of this, I went to another doctor. He wanted to first do a macrolide resistance test and then start me on Doxycycline. I had the test done yesterday, on May 18th.

The problem is that the resistance test could not be performed because I tested negative for MGEN. I think the Azithromycin I previously took may have affected the test result and made it unreliable, because I still have symptoms and don’t think the Azithromycin alone worked.

I also started taking Doxycycline yesterday after i gave my urine sample for the resistance test.

My question is: after I finish the 7 days of Doxycycline, should I ask my doctor for Azithromycin again, or would Moxifloxacin be the better option?

Azithro & Doxy at the same time?

Any one has taken Azithro and Doxy at the same time?

My doc prescribed me both at the same time for 3 days then to continue on Doxy for 2 weeks.

Is this a usual treatment?

I have also got my first TOC after 3 weeks and it came back negative. I’m still having discharge but it’s clear not cloudy no more.

Day 4 of moxi pain in joints and balls .

So i got tested positive for ureaplasma in January. Took doxycycline 7 days and later for a month with azithromycin. And it came back again now in prescribed moxifloxicin for 21 days I'm taking with NAC and i swear to God i have having weird moving pain in all my joints some day it's in one joint next day or next hour in another joint.
Also some pain in my balls now i nev3r had pain in my balls since January but these 4 days are being cruel to me.
Help me if anyone been through that and what did you do? Of course I'll visit doctor too if it gets worse but it's kind of moving pain for me. And it does hurt yeah. Since my job is not office job where i can just sit.

If my mgen treatment doesn't work, i think ill wait 6 months to see if it clears on its own.

It feels crazy to take 2 different antibiotics for something that is causing me mild burning at worst, and its something that can clear up on its own too.

And condoms prevent transmission like 99.999999% percent.

I feel terrible about nuking my body for something doctors don't even wanna test for, that causes absolutely no discharge, and at most maybe some burning that goes away anyway.

Mycoplasma Genitalium

Male, 30, 200 pounds 5'11". Diagnosed last week after showing symptoms for a month but didn't notice them until retrospect. Currently on day 2 of Azithro in a 7day doxy/4 day azithro regimen. Last time I had sex was with a brief ex (20, female - who had about 30 partners over the winter) -maybe about 16 times over 3 days - in early March. My (22, ~170 pounds, 5'5") female roommate was just diagnosed with it as well but is asymptomatic. She hasn't had sex in a year and is basically asexual and celibate. She shared vapes with my ex and they kissed but never had sex, and my roommate and I have never had sex or shared partners. What are the likely vectors of transmission? If we shared towels is it possible but improbable? What about them kissing potentially after my ex and I had immediate sexual contact? Is it most likely we caught it separately and it just is a coincidence? Just evaluating the situation and would love some spit balling.

Mgen - do I need to tell past/future partner?

Been told I’ve got Mycoplasma genitalium and I’m currently on moxifloxacin for 7 days.

I had sex with someone about 2.5 months ago, and again (only oral) about 1 month ago. I’m also planning to see him again in 2 weeks.

Do I need to:

- tell him about the past encounters (2 months / 1 month ago)?

- tell him before I see him again in 2 weeks?

- or only tell recent partners within a certain time window?

Just trying to understand what’s actually expected here because the guidance online feels unclear.

Is this mgen for 12 years?

My first and only symptoms would be a pain that I would feel in the middle of my urethra whenever my dicj would move around and small white flakes that I could see at the entrance of my pee hole. After I would pee then out the pain would go away and I would not get the symptom again for multiple months. Lately I haven’t been getting any symptoms for about 2 or 3 years until recently where I had a reoccurrence. I thought the symptoms had gone away because I stoped eating an ultroprocessed diet but when I had this reoccurrence I had eating very poorly again for weeks.

My first symptoms appeared when I was have sex with my first girlfriend who cheated on me. Multiple doctors haven’t figured out what it was and I only heated if mgen from ai. I usually don’t think about it now cos I thought it was gone because of diet and it’s a quick fix by just peeing

Extreme fatigue and brain fog from Mgen?

Do you guys also experience extreme fatigue and brain fog from Mgen?

I'm not sure if it's entirely caused by Mgen, but it's hard to blame anything else since nothing changed around the time I contracted it except Mgen itself. All other STIs came back negative except for Mgen (and herpes, although I could have gotten that much earlier, and I dont rly have outbreaks. My mother has herpes too, so technically I could have contracted it from her at birth).

The important thing is that the fatigue, brain fog, and general inflammation almost completely disappear while I'm on antibiotics, but once I stop taking them, everything comes back.

My doctor doesn't want to prescribe moxifloxacin because they believe Mgen isn't particularly harmful, and that taking fluoroquinolones would be more harmful for me in the long run.

Lingering symptoms 12 months and counting!

I cleared mgen and ureaplasma last may 2025. Iv confirmed with 4 naat pcr tests since last June all negative. Same with my wife she tested negative twice. She took doxy and moxifloxacin just as a precaution anyways and has tested negative twice since last June.

Im sitlll feeling burning urethra, sometimes urethral spasms, some irritation periodically at times. Its gone down compared to last may or June which was unbearable but still I feel like I should be further along at the 12 month mark. Has anyone had lingering symptoms last this long or longer and does this ever heal or am I screwed. Feeling super down the last few days

Treatment question

I’m having a terrible time dealing with treating Mgen…

Due to some bad advice from doctors, side effects from the pills and various misleading results my treatment schedule this week has been disrupted. I had a confirmed macrolide susceptible strain and I’ve taken

- 7 days doxycycline
- 1g azithromycin day 1, 500mg day two
- the final 500mg azithromycin after a 2.5 day delay

So I have had the recommended 2g azithromycin as per NHS guidelines with doxycycline pretreatment … but with a gap in the treatment plan so extended over almost 6 days rather than 3.

How likely is this to have cured my infection?? I’m terrified that I’ve left a window for resistance to develop …

Is Mgen rly problematic?

My doctor (who is sti specialist) said that they don't run tests for Mgen or refuse to treat it if there is no symptoms or just mild symptoms. They claim that there is some chance that its can go away on its own. They claim that Mgen way less harmfull than chlamydia trachomatis.

Not gonna lie it sounds kinda odd to me.

Azithromycin still works

Hey all. I found this page almost 2 years ago when I had to battle this infection and I’m not going to lie, this page scared me so much when I came across the word “Moxifloxacin”.

As someone with bad health anxiety, long story short, I was going to try whatever it took to not take Moxi. Prior to knowing I had Mgen, I had taken azithromycin for another reason and reading about resistance I was convinced my choice of treatment of doxycycline and azithromycin wouldn’t work as I had taken azithromycin and then I tested positive 2 months later when I did a routine test and no I was not infected after I took that azithromycin as I was celibate at that point.

I went through my treatment plan fearing it didn’t work because so many people on this sub says it’s resistant to azi and knowing I took azi and it clearly didn’t wipe it out, I started to spiral.

I avoided doing a test of cure for 6 weeks but finally got the courage and it was negative. I was feeling pretty good and then a few days later I started feeling itching and irritation down there. I then started to doubt that my result was accurate. I started reading treatment failures on this sub as well.

Long story short, I was convinced I had Mgen and the treatment failed and I avoided doing another test for fear of being positive because I couldn’t handle that given what was going on in my life at the time.

I was like could this be residuals? Could it be BV? So I addressed all that and I guess I did have BV after all those antibiotics but I still felt symptoms. For a whole year.

I was tormenting myself by thinking I had it and i was like I can’t keep living like this. It took some time but with research and reading people’s experiences, I became comfortable with the idea of having to take Moxi because I rather take that and risk whatever than live like this.

I got the courage and did other tests and they all came back negative. Strangely enough, when I accepted the fact I might have to take Moxi and was at peace with it, my symptoms actually died down pretty quickly.

So I just wanted to share my story for those spiraling like I was

  1. I know some people took it and it failed but azithromycin can definitely still work for some even if you suspect there might be some resistance.
  2. residuals are amplified by stress! If you have to take 2 or more pcr tests for your peace of mind, just do it and not wait a whole year like me and live in torment. They will fade away in time.

For all those fighting this infection, you will get through this!

mycoplasma struggles

I tested positive for Mycoplasma genitalium recently and I’m really anxious that it didn’t go away. I’ve been celibate since January.

Initially I was prescribed doxycycline, but after taking one dose I got violently sick and threw up, so my doctor switched me to azithromycin once a day for 4 days. I finished the treatment weeks ago, but I still feel like I’m having symptoms.

My symptoms tend to flare after my period. My period just ended yesterday and now I’m having thick clumpy discharge, itching, and irritation again. Last month I actually tested negative for yeast, which is why I’m confused.

I’ve read a lot about azithromycin resistance with Mycoplasma and now I’m spiraling thinking the treatment failed. I’m getting retested Friday, but I wanted to know if anyone else had lingering symptoms after treatment or experienced post-period flares even after antibiotics.

Asymptomatic and Prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate & Moxifloxacin HCL

Hi all, I (25 M) asymptomatically have mycoplasma genitalium. I know I have it because my GF tested positive->was treated->we had sex-> she tested positive again. So, I finally went to urgent care and let them know that I need to be treated. They prescribed me Doxy (1 100MG capsule twice a day for 1 week) and Moxi (1 400MG table every day for 1 week). She took Doxy and let me know to avoid the sun but other than that I'm not really worried. But, after researching Moxifloxacin, I'm really afraid. I've already read all of the reddit horror stories, and I'm especially scared because I already have achilles tendonitis and apparently a side effect is your tendons flaring up/being damaged. (I'm not 100% sure I just read it online) In all honesty, the multi-page essay of warnings/side effects was scary enough. Is it 100% necessary that I take both the Doxy and Moxy? Or will I be treated with only Doxy? I'm a generally healthy individual, but my job can be pretty taxing/stressful and I'm worried that I'm not in the mental shape to take Moxi.
