07 Element in Mexico... need help diagnosing an issue!
Hola! I have an AWD manual transmission 2007 Element in Mexico, which as you might know, is a country where the Element was not actually sold by Honda. I love it so much, but finding parts and mechanics who are familiar with the Element isn't exactly easy. I'm currently in the US and have one chance to fly back to Mexico with the correct parts to get the car running better, and I need your help. And because I'm in the US, I can't simply walk out to the car or scan the OBDII.
In a nutshell: the car keeps dying while driving, especially when braking or decelerating. It starts right back up, while still in motion. But nearly every time I slow down for a speed bump or a stop sign, the engine dies.
Initially, I through the issue was one or both O2 sensors. But after replacing one of the sensors a while back, I'm not so sure.
More info:
- The mileage is over 120k.
- The check engine and "ABS" lights are on.
- It doesn't only stall when warm. It has a surging idle.
- The clutch was recently replaced.
- The car won't go above 3500rpm. When I reach 3500rpm, the clutch kicks out of gear and into neutral. (Is this Limp Mode?)
- This is a secondary issue; it's more important to me to fix the "engine dies when decelerating" issue.
So, any guesses as to what I'm dealing with here?
ChatGPT seems to think the throttle body might need a good cleaning and potentially to be replaced. I don't exactly trust ChatGPT for repair advice.
Please help! Gracias in advance!
