Is expecting reciprocal effort from friends too much?
Hey ladies,
I have these 2 girlfriends from school (we're in our late 20s now) and have been by each other's side through all the drama that being a woman navigating adulthood entails. Boyfriends, breakups, weddings, SA, family drama: all of it.
The past couple of years I've made a concerted effort to send them flowers on their birthdays. I've initiated the plan with friend A for friend B's birthday, and with friend B for friend A's birthday. Now the past two years have also included my birthday but I did not see them make the same effort for me. They wish me, of course, but it stings that they don't care to send me something despite me taking the lead to send something to both of them.
I can't decide how to feel. Is it childish/petty to be upset about this?
