Wisdom of spending Big Bux maintaining/upgrading a 2009 550i
Hello all. I have a 2009 550i M Sport that I have owned since 2015. It has around 188,000km (around 117,000 miles) on the clock, and I really don't drive it much these days.....mostly to and from the train station, and the odd errand. It's certainly not getting used like it should. Over the last 6-7 months, I've been playing catch-up with some deferred maintenance, primarily oil/coolant leaks and chasing a battery drain. Please note that I do not do my own work, and have been recently using a rather expensive indy shop. In total, I have spent around $10K trying to get this car back in presentable condition, and I'm not done. Suspension/control arms and likely brakes will need attention soonish. Any normal outsider would question my sanity in spending this amount of cash on a car that "might" be worth $13K optimistically, but I really, really like this car, absolutely enjoy driving it and don't see it being replaced any time soon. I'm retiring in a few weeks and certainly won't be getting into a new car note. At this point, the upkeep of this car has become a "passion project".....am I dumb/delusional to keep going with it?
