Advice for 69 year old father
My dad is turning 70 this year. He is a pretty active, fit guy for his age, probably even more so than many guys half his age.
Him and my mom have a winter home in Phoenix where he plays a minimum 5-6 rounds per week for half the year and 2-3 rounds per week for the summer months while back home. I would say he’s golfing around 200 rounds per year (the retired life must be nice).
I don’t know a ton about it his game but he says his handicap is around 9-10 and they play exclusively from the blues. His friend who I would consider a phenomenal golfer says he is a very good golfer who “smokes the ball”.
The problem is my dad is cheap. He’s had a very successful career, hence the life he’s living but he’s just so cheap… All of his clubs are purchased second hand off FB Marketplace or from other people he plays with.
I want to treat him for his 70th. Would an older guy of his calibre actually benefit from custom fitted clubs? Obviously I’m willing to spend the money for the fitting and clubs, if he likes them.
But will someone like him be likely to have a significant benefit to his game with custom fitted clubs? Because the fact of just having custom fitted clubs won’t phase him, rather he’s the type of guy who would need to see a tangible improvement in his game to see the benefit of the money spent - despite it not being his own money. Thoughts?
