How to remove someone from a house?

Stuck in a confusing/messy situation. Parents bought the grandparents house 20 years ago, house was kept in the grandparents name, with it going to the parents when they passed away.

A relative moved into the house 2 years ago to help take care of the last surviving grandparent. They weren't on any bills, didn't pay any rent. The grandparent passed away earlier this year.

It was indicated a month after the passing that they will need to start making arrangements to move out, as the house will need to be sold due to other other issues I won't get into.

The relative has since changed the locks on the house and is refusing to leave, saying the need at least a year to figure stuff out.

I have no idea what the correct thing to do here. Do they have rights even if they haven't ever paid rent? Can we just call the guards and have them done for trespassing? Obviously, this is a whole heap messier because of the family aspect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
