I messed up

i was laid off 2 months ago because I said "please work my n- " this former coworker is bad she was transferred to our department because nobody wants her. I trained her and we speak with slang.I know we should have never got to that point. I still continue receiving complaints from my former co workers about her not working. Also, the call was done on our personal phones I was trying to not get her in trouble I had a colleague on the line which confirmed I said the bad word which she did confirm I did say it, I was angry and felt comfortable to speak to her that way due to the fact we use profanity on our personal phone calls, I was trying not to get her in any trouble. She went over my supervisor and boss and reported me to HR. After meeting with HR they were upset I got "separated from the company I find it unfair since I covered for her especially doing her work for over a year Should I try reaching out to the company I used to work for and apologize? Supposably I am red flagged
