How to play Scizor/Scyther

Scyther is my favourite pokemon of all time, and I also have a soft spot for Scizor. I am an absurdly new player to unite (haven't even been playing for a week). So I have yet to really understand how somethings work. I am currently in Great tier, just reached it. I dominated the beginner tiers with Scizor before, getting MVP almost every game, But now I am doing horrible. So I'm asking for some help from experienced Scizor mains on how I can better use this character. FYI my current play style is very aggressive, jumping into fights without much thought (I know this isn't good, it's a bad habit)

I'm trying to get a gengar in my most recent playthrough and I was wondering how to get it to evolve. With other games I've been using pkhex (2nd photo) to get trade evos but I can't do it with a save state, and i'm already pretty far into this run to start all over. Any advice or ideas to get gengar?
