Denji dropping the chainsaw isn't him abandoning Chainsawman because Chainsaw Man was bad.

It's him proving that the goodness we associated with Chainsawman was always inside Denji too.

The chainsaw can stay on the ground.

Denji can still save someone.

Denji becoming more "mature" after losing his memories of being Chainsaw Man reminds me of Light becoming "good" after losing his memories of being Kira. It's not real growth if they only changed because they lost their memories of having something that made them feel a sense of grandeur
