After months of saving your hard-earned cash, you finally make it to the hi-fi shop.

Two systems are sitting there, and both completely max out your budget.

One is a modern active speaker setup with built-in streaming. (It sounds noticeably better, but there's less to upgrade in the future)

The other is a traditional separates system with an amp, streamer and passive speakers. It doesn't sound quite as good today, but it gives you a proper upgrade path.

Which would you choose with your own money, and why? Are you buying the best sound you can get right now, or the system you can build on over time?
