Placing DnD during the Great War What Do I Do?

Hello everyone,

I am planning a custom DnD campaign being set during The Great War (WW1, 1914-1918) where the campaign is the players attempting to stop the war, a possible continuation being ending the war or doing espionage for the kingdom that hires them. I wanted a mix of fantasy and antiquity.

Before this fills the comments yes, I’m aware other games that DnD exist, however my friends (aka players) are more familiar with DnD, however if I must change system I will change the system.

That brings me to the kingdoms, I have three in mind:

- A kingdom mixing the United States and United Kingdom

- A kingdom based on East Asia and part of Russia

- A kingdom based on Europe (aside from the UK)

A few main questions I have are:

  1. Is DnD suitable for this, as I know it leans more medieval based fantasy.
  2. Guns. Should I add them? They would all be bolt rifles or semi automatic pistols.
  3. Should the players get the ‘bad ending’ should I have another campaign about ending the war? And if they get the good ending, no second campaign.
  4. Mixing fantasy and modernity. In a world of dragons and magic, would biplanes and machine guns be obsolete.

Thank you so much for reading and giving your time. And I eagerly await your suggestions and comments.

Edit:
DnD will be removed from my table in search of a new system. I will stop trying to force DnD into something it isn’t and just tell my friends to suck it up, I’m sorry for committing the great sin of using a more familiar system as a crutch for my work. Thank you everyone.

And yes, I do play other systems, I’m a huge CoC fan, and before people scream at me to use it, it’s not what I’m looking for, I want a high fantasy to mix with the industrial age, if I wanted to run CoC I’d have run CoC.

Am I weird for making OCs for about every fandom I’m in or pieces of media I like?

So, this is weird to me at least but I usually am just an over thinker. I noticed that when I join a fandom or really like a piece of media, I have an urge to create an OC for it. Now most of them are normal, like a ponysona for MLP or a stand user for JJBA but I just randomly one day made a character for Ferris Buller’s Day Off, just felt compelled to make one and I just did.

I’ve been in fandom culture since I was young, suffered the horrors of Amino, and been to conventions since I became 18. Is it normal to feel that urge to make an OC for media even if it ‘doesnt make sense’? Or am I just weird and have some things left over from earlier fandom days.

Cybersix (Teletoon)

It’s such a bold angular design, especially when they’re Cybersix. The skin tight bodysuit with the large hat and dramatic cape gives the gothic vibe the show had. Adrian also carries the style with the more traditional look of suspenders and tie they wear.

Superman and Batman (Superman Red Son)

I will be honest and say I have not read the original comic or seen the film aside from clips I got served on YT, but these were just cool and I had to say something.

I love Superman’s collar insignia that mimic those on uniforms during WW2 era Soviet Union. I also love how his colors have been muted and given a more black and red color scheme and the big hammer and sickle insignia in place of his iconic ‘S’.

Batman has more here that I really like, is outfit has more of a soldier look, like he made his suit out of the fatigues he wore during the war and the Ushanka in place of his usual cowl.
