Tracking combat

Do you have any tips on how to track npc during combat? I feel like theres a lot of things to keep in mind and i dont know how to keep track of everything while maintaining a good pace.

Do you guys use paper and pen or some sort of tracker?

So i wanna run a homebrew system for a sci fi adventure. (Im stealing a lot from cyberpunk red and dnd 5e lol)

I wanna have two similar mechanics for lockpicking and hacking into a terminal.

For lockpicking i got the idea from a youtuber (i dont remember the name, very sorry) where the lock presents different pins and you have to roll nd6 (n is the number of pins) one at a time in a progressive numerical order to open it. I want the lockpicking skill points to be used as a pool of +1/-1 to be added to each dice until it runs out. If u fail a sequence you have to restart, and you cant try too many times or the lock will break.

So far i like this kind of mechanic and i wanna find another one similar for hacking into a computer. Do you have any seggestions?
