Hello r/OntarioTeachers. I am a student of Wilfred Laurier who is currently on medical leave. I unfortunately have to take the 2026-2027 September-June year off from studies for mental health reasons, but I did not want to waste my time entirely. As such I am searching for ways to gain experience through volunteering. (As I plan to become a teacher after my studies)

The original plan was to volunteer as a teaching aid with my previous high school teachers, which they were on board with, but unfortunately upon further discussion with the principal, they couldn’t find a meaningful role for me as I am not yet in Teachers College. They advised me to look into volunteer roles in the elementary system as they are always looking for extra hands.

So while that is on my radar, I also wanted to get a second opinion from those on this subreddit on other opportunities for experience.
