Back in my day, if you wanted to watch anime, you either had to go to an anime film festival or borrow a copy of a copy of a copy of the VHS tape where it’s in Japanese with Thai subtitles. A buddy of mine used to crack me up by narrating BEAST CITY.

Now we live in the golden age! Every anime, all the time!

But my life has never been busier. It’s tragic. However, I now watch an episode of some anime every night before I go to bed. I’m working my way through all the stuff I’ve missed, but currently, I’ve been watching Jujutsu Kaisen.

Should I watch Seven Deadly Sins? I mean, I did write a book about ‘em.

But there's a reason everyone calls Emerilia the Widow Stone.
Long ago, Emerilia was a recruit just like Gray. She and the man she loved, Grimm, survived Culling Day, Soulshred Week, and the Reckoning together. They completed the Training and moved on to the Hunting.

Grimm didn't survive. Emerilia did. But she’s never truly moved on. Instead, she turned her grief into something else. She devoted herself to manabinding, helping people, and putting a little more magic into a world that had taken so much from her.

Then Grayson Fade walks into her shop, and she see him for what he is. “It's like you are a sun walking around candleflames.”

The Widow Stone becomes one of Gray's most important allies—and she agrees to help him when others can't.

Of course, there's a price.

Gray owes the Widow Stone one favor.

And something tells me she's eventually going to collect.

I used to travel the country selling books at cons, but I’ve slowed that shit down. I generally only do two or three events a year. This year it’s LitRPG Con, DragonCon, and Mile-Hi Con, which is a local event in Denver. It's small, but awesome, and one of the continuous sci-fi/fantasy conventions in the world! This is the 58th one!

It's where I got my start back in the day. First table. First panel. First everything. And no, it wasn't 58 years ago. I'm not that old!

So when I'm hand-selling books to people, and they tell me that they already have a ton of books, I tell them that books are like Twinkies. They never go bad. Sometimes that actually works, but selling books to people is weird.

However, hoarding books is not weird. I can't tell you how many times I've found a book on my shelf that I don't remember buying and when I read it, it's the perfect book for the moment.

I love it when that happens.

So keep buying my books. You never know when it will come in handy.

The only way I could beat the insomnia was to imagine I was in the main character's blue house in North Denver, with a goddess in my bed and a vampire downstairs watching movies all night. This series was originally published as RAGE KING, and I love this story so much, but I think that many readers didn't give it a chance because of the title and cover. I couldn’t let Colt Holliday languish in the wastelands of Amazon, so we’re changing things up!

Not only did I love the main character, and the god of rage inside of him, but the main love interest was just too cute. Gilly is an adorkable college student who ends up with an ancient goddess of lust inside of her.

So they can be gods together!

And in September I’ll be starting to push for the release of 7 SONGS OF SIN (The Sinfire Chronicles Book 2) which comes out in October.

Lastly, I’ve been inspired by Edie Skye! I need to get my TikTok and Facebook Reels going. So I’ll be making videos to promote the books that I love so much.

One of the best things about publishing books with Black Forge books is that I get really good covers. One of my favorites has to be the tenth AMERICAN DRAGONS book. That book was a labor of love…every page.

It was another one that I wrote in a coffee shop in ten days and that final wedding scene still makes me tear up. And it’s one of my books I’ve reread the most.

We called the cover the “butt cover” and I liked it so much that Black Forge Books sent me a mug with the cover on it.

Love the cover. Love those books. I’m pondering a twelfth book. Excalibur is out there and Steven Drokharis needs to find it. Before someone…or something…else finds it.

I do a lot of coffee shop writing. Yes, Matt Dinniman made fun of people like me in his hit series DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of it.

Anyway, I need to stop promoting Matt’s book, but I can’t help it. DCC is the song of my soul.

But it’s not why I’m making this post.

Anyway…

When I write books, I get lost inside the scene. I’m seeing what my characters are seeing and feeling what my characters are feeling. That means if they’re laughing, I’m laughing, and if they’re crying, I’m crying.

One of my favorite scenes that I’ve ever written was from 7 DEADLY INSTINCTS (The Sinfire Chronicles Book 1).

It was near the end, when my main character Grayson Fade is working with his squad mate, Rynn, to not just survive Culling Day but win it.

Rynn has the power to vent her core—and she uses it, though it nearly kills her.

When I wrote that scene, I couldn’t help but cry, and there I was, in the coffee shop, with tears streaming down my face. Hey, I’m Italian. We’re a passionate people.

I knew the people around me were concerned, and I could just imagine the pimply barista coming over and saying, “Sir? Are you all right? You’re scaring the other customers.”

In the end, I finished the scene, blew my nose, and started the next chapter.

Man. I love writing books.
