Trend around MC going to zero to douchebag in 3 books or less

I've a question for the authors. What's the deal with shift towards making the MCs more douche-y as the series progresses? I've noticed that there have been several books now where the MC/hero gets sent into a new world with no aspirations or knowledge of the systems (cultivation, magic, etc.). Then, blam-o, this "nobody" is the OP savior of the world. In the first couple of books, the MC is pretty chill and humble but by the time we get to later novels, this dude is now the ONLY person that can do anything and can't bother to listen to anyone else that might have some insight. (Oh and his harem which consisted of some of the strongest women in the world become basically sidekicks or, worse, sycophants). I've had to put down a couple of series that I was pretty invested in because of this phenomenon. So, my question...is this character development, plot twist? What are you hoping to accomplish with these fairly major character shifts?

Looking for cultivation / fantasy novels with OP MC, romance or harem, big worlds, and actual story

The Hidden Demon King: The Empress Brought Her Child to Ask for Responsibility — Gostei da identidade secreta, do romance de desenvolvimento lento, dos momentos cotidianos e do elemento família/criança.

Gavin died fighting the Demon of the End. Now he's twenty two again, and he has a chance to change everything.

Gavin Nalcombe wakes up in a crumbling estate, a week before the Stardusk entrance exams. Inside that Academy, the three women who could have turned the tide of the war never got the chance.

He won't let that happen again.

Brikita is a scholarship student with starlight mana rare enough that she reshaped the war. Aryen is a shadow mage whose own family threw her away for magic she was born with. Maya, the headmistress, the kingdom's strongest mage, is secretly dying to hold the demon rifts shut. With their help, and a constellation mark that can amplify anyone he bonds with, he has a chance to change everything.

Anyone else get annoyed with M.C. emotional inconsistencies because the plot needs it.

I am currently reading prism academy 1, I am throughly enjoying it, but I am getting irritated at the change in emotion responses purely because the plot needs it.

Without any spoilers, the M.C. keeps getting attacked both physically and politically. He just had a big speech about being done with attacks and how he would start pushing back hard if it continued. Then not even 30 minutes later in the book, he is captured. Instead of being furious at the continued attacks and immediately blowing up the vehicle he is in, he is calm as the person in the vehicle can speak to him. Shit is seriously going down around him and he's supposed to be chill with them capturing him? Fuck no. It's all because the plot needs it.

To me, this is a sign of weak writing. It was to help setup some mysteries that the book had touched on earlier, but the author completely forgot how on edge the M.C. is. "Oh I keep getting attacked and kidnapped by various groups, all wanting to own me or kill me, but sure, I'll listen to what you have to say."

Any novels with really good interactions with the girls and lots of romance Arcs?

Looking for novels with Lots of Romance Arcs (Like Going to Dates and so on) and really good interactions.

Fostering Faust have really good interactions, one of my fav.

Also, I would prefer Little to No F/F.

I Would like the girls to Argue with each other over MC but in the end, Gets along well.

Like, Going to another room and had a Heated argument, then came back after 10 minutes later, hand in hand like bestfriends.

Like that. Good relationship between the girls as friend but no attraction towards each other.

Looking for books with yearning women

I'm looking for books where the FMC (single or harem doesn't matter) yearns a lot for the MMC. The MMC doesn't like the FMC in the first glance, or even after a while. The FMC has to impress him or woo him, and she likes him first of course. I want the MMC to like the FMC for something that she does for him, like maybe she saves him physically, or gives him a job when he's in need or something like that. Basically I don't want him to like her just because she exists or just because she's beautiful. Also bonus points if the MMC is very cool/collected/calm around the FMC (I know that's usually too much to ask in romance books).

Looking for your fav recommendation.

New to haremlit. I started with an extreme American dungeon league but it was a little much. I read all of the dungeon diving 101 series and absolutely loved it. Currently I'm listening to the paladin of the shield and it's good but not as good as dungeon diving. I have my free credit on audible and I'm looking for something new after the paladin series. What are your favorite audible books that are worth a listen?

Favorite tsundere/sassy characters?

I’m very new to harem novels, although I tend to love the tsundere archetype in fanfiction and visual novels. I started with Harem Farm as my first, and I love this sassy sheep gal. Any recommendations for similar love interests?

Let's Roundup on 07-05-2026

Lets kick this pig. First I want to say I was going to try Accidental Demon Lord and I lasted like 3 pages before I had to say nope can't do it. That book DEMANDS you listen to it with a quality narrator. Anything less will not do it justice so I hope the audio hits soon.

https://preview.redd.it/j271cshwqebh1.png?width=848&format=png&auto=webp&s=3061d80dd0b96d0e498cca90b74a0b88b40b5e0d

I give a lot of shit to books that dont handle themselves with a sense of seriousness because that is what I look for. I like to read books that has a sense of gravitas so I stay away from porn with plot for the most part. I really like story first character development second strong world building then maybe spicy.

All that being said this book is what it says on the tin and was all the fun for it. It was just a episode of buffy with a dude with a harem. Serisouly this could have been a episode on TNT and I would not have noticed the difference. But it knew what it was and leaned all into it with 10 toes. The tone stayed consistent the charaters were what you expect and reacted how you thought so it was just overall mindless fun but did not advertised itself like ti was going to be anything else.

Now we can talk about how none of the relationships have any build up. How The party splitting up after they harp on Mikes lack of Cardio was fucking dumb or why Blair loses her cool at the most dumbest time when she is the one that keeps it together but if you saw any of Sarah Michelle Geller during her run you know why.

If you are looking for mindless fun then give it a try.

Summoned By Monster Girls 4

https://preview.redd.it/6szo7s3osebh1.png?width=938&format=png&auto=webp&s=5cf3ff5d124b5c80428a97a2ebf51870f476baee

So I have given M. Tress a lot of shit for this series (Thier weakest series I feel) because of the MC who is more a vehicle for the other girls to shine rather then a actual character. Now I see where they are going. It was a slow slow Heavenly Chaos Style slow burn where it takes 4 books before Liam starts to get confidence and come into his own. 4 books and 5 women to start becomming a real boy lol.

Besides that this is one of the more interesting powersets for a MC. Usually we get either Human MC or MC that will just be some form of human .... usually it is left to Deacon Frost or Edenn Redd to give us truly non human MC's but Liam is right on that cusp. Like in this authors other books he is not afraid to make his monster people actually monsterous....like a David Corenberg...just with romace lol.

The story feels like it picked up a bit here we see Liam becomming more of a Agent in his own life and the girls starting to really think about the future. Instead of a small 5 or 6 books I can see this series hitting 8 or so and now I am looking forward to it, not as much as Lost Bloodline or Steelforged Legacy but it is def my auto buy. I do love the scenes where Liam is going through the chaos and the author shows glimpses of not just thier other works but other authors works. It feels like they are a fan of the genre and I love that.

Dungeon Diving Culinary Wizard 3

https://preview.redd.it/iet81bsmuebh1.png?width=1005&format=png&auto=webp&s=56fe48e68f65e0bde1fcbb0f0c50174d9b8cd6c4

Rushed. That is what I really feel here. I did enjoy that series a lot but I swear there was way more story to tell. I mean it is not Beyond Superpowered rushed but it was right up there. Also why is this not on whispersynch...had to use a credit. That being said it was well worth the purchase. The narrators did a fantastic job

Now with it being rushed a lot of the fights felt lacking. Like Praxx was able to solo everyone but Jacks spatula cut him? And he is almost as fast as Michelle when she is level 83 with a melee build? It was like the levels dont matter and stats were just tacked on.

Also the authors forgot small things sometimes like Michelle says here

>“No, I, uh, I mean yes, I’m fine,” Michelle stammered. “It’s just that I almost didn’t believe Jake when he said he’d met another monster who could talk.”

>

>Scott, Landon; Hunnigan, Ringo. Dungeon Diving Culinary Wizard 3: A Humorous LitRPG Fantasy Adventure (Spells & Spatulas) (p. 127). Royal Guard Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.

When they just had a whole ass conversation with Praxx saying why he is letting them go.

I think the author should have given at least one or two more books because the sex with Michelle was just given with no pay off. She is not part of the harem and leaves to go do her own thing. It was like ohh that happened and persdonally I am not cool with sex outside of the harem.

That all being said this was a weall written book with just a few minor typos. It threw me for a loop when it was the Rat doc that was the trapper because my money was on the human scientist on the surface. Still a lot of fun and I do recommend it even with the abrupt ending.

Rise Of The Reaper King

https://preview.redd.it/2kfn7kf1xebh1.png?width=675&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb604149379226c1cb18749ea4ca33a1fde9ad8e

I did not expect to like this as much as I did. I dont know if this is a new author or new pen name but I can tell they are still working on thier craft. That being said this is a pretty good showing and I am looking forward to how they progress.

there are some issues like author forgets what they wrote last couple of pages like when Nick had to bring Sully into the ambulance and Sully is like whats that lightning and Nick is like yeah freak storm....but it was already raining and thundering when they went down there. It was not a freak storm just a storm. or when the author says that Trix naturally heat of her body was cutting through the chill of the monring but just before her body was naturally cold.

Now I know people will want to run off and say ohh AI slop but I really dont think so. Not in this instance because the writing is too consistance. The charaters do make sense in a way. Nick is annoying and a bit whiny but he stays consistently annoying and whiny there is no wild mood swings. No dynamic shifts in interactions. You see him steadily progress.

That being said unless the next book has some big changes incomming I dont see how this can be a harem. The other insteractions with females already feel organic and grounded that if they suddenly want to get into MC;s pants that would be jarring. I mean I guess a case could be made for the Kitsune but I just dont see it as it is now.

All that said the worldbuilding is good the pacing was decent and the character interations were ok. Like I said if the author continues to improve they are going to be one to watch for.

Lord Of The Dragonriderers Book1

https://preview.redd.it/yvm06fgfzebh1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=02600aa18ad1cc3ccea91c18618c3b9ff6412798

I listened to this and thought...this narrator did not belive a word they said lol.

This was pretty paint by numbers you read one you read them all type of story. The MC is pretty bog standard who seems to suffer from some type of attention deficit where when anyone tries to tell them anything of importance they space out. It was like one of those Jimmy Neutron episodes whever someone tries to get Jimmy to explain the science and someone would just start singing real loud over him so he could not explain.

MC comes to a new world and tries to tell two people that he is from a different land. They eventually believe him but at no point does he say look at my shoes. Here is a zipper these are not from here.

One of Daniels problems is that he has the ego the size of his full grown dragon. Like he always has to be first and he can not listen to advice. We know he has this because we see it he knows he has this problem because he says it and know what he does....the same shit over and over again. Never any self improvement.

I do wonder and it is never explained in the first book that Saya is from the lowlands. She is not nobel but she has a dragon. Yet when she first met Daniel she thinks he stole the egg for his dragon because he is not. I mean she was ready to hurt him and take it from him. So what gives here... maybe it will be addressed in the next book.

One thing I would like to see authors do is not rush the tringing. We see school settings and instead of MC's saying hey let me learn everything I can and be better prepaired it is like MC's get there learn one spell and tell the rest of the teachers ohh you are all dumb I am better peace bitches.

Anyway standard book with standard MC. If you like Marcus Sloss works you will probably dig this.

G.S. D'Moore July Update

July Update!

Happy belated Fourth of July! I hope everyone had a relaxing day, enjoys the fireworks, and doesn't melt. It's gonna be a hot one.

On the writing front, I know things have been quiet since that whirlwind of releases in May, but I promise I'm hard at work. We're only a couple of weeks out from Titan's Legacy 2 dropping on eBook. The pre-order will go up here in the next few days, so stay tuned, and I'll get that off to Royal Guard for the audio.

On the audio front, Podium is working on Small Town Shifter 5. They've asked for my notes, and those are due next week, but still no release date. I'd probably guess sometime in the fall, but don't quote me.

Also on the audio front, I'm excited to announce that starting this week, Courts and Cabals 4 and I'm Just a Small Town Shifter 3 Part 1 will be available not just on Audible, but on platforms like Spotify, Apple, and in libraries via the Libby and Hoopla apps, so check them out! Links in the comments.

That's it for me for July. Once Titan's Legacy 2 is wrapped up then it is onto Thirdborn 5 before finishing out the year with The Adventures of Grave 5 around the holidays. Again, that you everyone for reading. None of this is possible without you.

Happy Fourth!
