Tarot and Trails Enforcers Day 5: Luciola

Hey all, sorry for the delay on this one, and not including a picture of The Lovers Card. Turns out Reddit will just auto-delete any post with that image, so... I mean, you can find it if you really want.

After a foray into speculation, we're back with a character we know well... The Lovers. Luci's story actually fits her card incredibly well, almost as well as Loewe, so let's jump straight into the Lovers arcana.

The lovers represents, as you can probably surmise, a healthy and stable relationship. Still, there's a little more than that, it can also represent a choice between two completely exclusive options, such as a choice between two lovers, and its place following the Hierophant leads to its connotations being that of someone who defines their own morality in place of adhering to others. We can see pieces of that in Luci, but it doesn't entirely define her story.

So, is Luciola reversed? Well, the reversed Lovers can refer to conflict and disharmony, and imbalanced relationship, as well as blaming others for the consequences of your choices. That definitely sounds like Luci's story too... So what gives? Is she upright or not? To which I would say Luciola's definitely a switch... I mean, she switches her tarot position back and forth, get your mind out of the gutter.

So, early Luci is definitely upright, she has a secure and healthy home with the troupe, she has her own sense of morality, by all accounts she's a good person... Until she's faced with a choice. A breakdown in communication causes her to embrace conflict, lashing out and embracing the instant gratification of the reversed lovers. Did Mr Harvey have to die? No, of course not, but when Luci lost her stability all she had left was imbalance, so she latched onto it. When referring to love directly, the reversed Lovers card often speaks to a passionless detached relationship, and that's what we see of Luci when she returns in 2nd. Cold, uncaring, and pushing Schera away to keep from seeing the consequences of her actions.

That said... It's not how we leave Luci. The consequences she was so scared of turns out to be worse than she could imagine, because Scherazard doesn't hate her. In spite of it all. This seems to return Luci to the upright position, at least to a certain extent. I don't think Luci staying so far from the spotlight is a coincidence, I think she chose it. I think Luci is in a self-imposed exile, facing the consequences of her actions by being the worst thing a Lover can be: Alone.

Luci's story is incredibly sad one, she was barely an adult when she killed Mr Harvey, and her life since has been one of pain and sorrow. Still, she did what she did, that can't be denied. What's a fair ending for Luci? Ultimately the series is very much on the forgiveness train, and I think that'll likely be the case with Luciola. I doubt they'll be so crass as to pair her up with someone, but the Lovers includes all kinds of love. Hopefully, she'll receive exactly the kind of love she needs.
