Mental health advice

Hi

I’m posting because I’ve been dealing with a long and confusing set of symptoms and I’m trying to understand what might actually be going on.

I started taking hair loss medication in 2020/21 called Finasteride and Minoxidil. 2022 I had a fall on my face with a scooter, and not long after that I started having panic attacks. Those symptoms have improved a lot with therapy, but I still feel like my nervous system is not fully back to normal.

Since early 2025, my main issue has been a constant feeling of being “overstimulated” or mentally overloaded. I get dizzy/lightheaded especially when I have to concentrate, write emails, search for things, or do anything that requires mental effort. Sometimes it also happens with physical activity, but it’s more obvious with mental strain. I’m usually fine when I wake up, and the symptoms build up during the day.

I also have chronic pain in my shoulder and now knee, and no clear structural cause has been found. One doctor mentioned central sensitization, which does fit the way my symptoms seem to overlap and fluctuate.

I did use finasteride and minoxidil for hair loss for several years, but I’ve stopped both almost a year ago. I’m not posting to blame one thing for everything, but I am trying to figure out whether there is a connection between my nervous system symptoms, chronic pain, and the whole stress/inflammation picture.

I've taken a truckload of supplements, none really seemed to help. At the moment I'l taking omega-3, magnesium, vit-D. I have been checked out by many doctors over the last 3 years.

What has helped you most if you’ve dealt with similar symptoms?
Did anything make the dizziness or “brain overload” better?
Did you figure out a diagnosis that explained the combination of dizziness, anxiety, brain fog, and chronic pain?
What kind of doctor, test, therapy, or lifestyle change made the biggest difference?

Any advice or shared experiences would mean a lot.

Persistent knee pain

Hi

I am 26, M and I wanted to share my experience in case anyone here has gone through something similar.

About 2.5 months ago, while skiing, I made a twisting movement and felt pain in my knee. Since then, it has gradually become worse. At first it was mainly pain around the inside of the knee, near the pes anserinus area, but I also sometimes feel it a bit higher up and behind the knee, especially when walking. Jogging made it worse, so I stopped running. Even now, I still have pain every day when I walk.

I already tried a few things, resting more, avoiding jogging and other impact activities, and getting it checked out. An ultrasound did not really show anything, and my MRI report was also described as normal.

What makes this harder for me is that I have also had a chronic shoulder inflammation for about 2.5 years, without a clear explanation. Because of that, I’m worried that this knee problem could turn into another chronic issue.

I’m mainly posting to ask: has anyone else had a similar knee problems, especially when scans looked normal? What was the cause in your case, and what helped?

FYI, I am seeing a knee specialist and my doctor. They are just coming up with physical excercises that I'm doing. (similar to the shoulder issue, that didn't help)

Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated.

Chronic left shoulder pain for 2.5+ years from bench press

Hi

I am almost 27 and have been dealing with persistent pain in my left shoulder since the summer of 2023. The pain is at the front of the shoulder, I can locate it by pressing on it. An early echo potentially showed some inflammation in the bursa, but in 2025 I had an MRI with contrast fluid and radiologist and shoulder expert said they couldn't see any issues with it.

These days the pain is limited if I don't exercise or use my left arm, but as soon as I start, I will have random pains in that area the days thereafter. It doesn't hurt when doing the excercies at all.

So far I have tried:

  • months of physiotherapy
  • classic strengthening exercises and graded loading
  • almost a year of full rest from upper body training
  • dry needling
  • shockwave therapy
  • 2 PRP injections
  • an ultrasound guided cortisone injection into the biceps sheath
  • follow up with a physical medicine specialist
  • osteopathy
  • MRI arthrogram, which did not show structural damage
  • Biodex testing, which showed a strength deficit on the left side, especially in external rotation and fatigue/work capacity

A few doctors and therapists also mentioned that there may be a central sensitization component, rather than only a local tissue problem.

I have also tried several supplements along the way:

  • turmeric / curcumin
  • peptides
  • ashwagandha
  • protein shakes
  • creatine
  • MSM
  • glucosamine
  • vitamin C

6 weeks ago I also started amitriptyline medication, this has been the only thing that has seemed to help in some regard (maybe 60% pain reduction), but it's not fully gone + I don't want to take this stuff for much longer as I have side effects from it.

At this point, I feel a bit stuck. Most things I have tried either did nothing or only helped temporarily, and rehab exercises often flare the pain up afterward.

I would really appreciate any ideas, experiences, or things that helped you when shoulder pain became chronic and standard treatment did not seem to work.

Thanks in advance.

Hair Transplant Issues & Hair Loss Medication Side Effects - Looking for Similar Experiences

Hi

I am posting because I honestly feel pretty alone in this and I have not yet found a doctor who can connect all the pieces or help me in a significant way.

I had an FUE hair transplant in 2020, when I was 20 years old. Since then I have had persistent pain and sensitivity in the transplanted area (1000 grafts crown, 200 grafts hairline). They are usually only painful when touched or pressed, but some days they also feel more tense and sometimes become spontaneously sore. Over time this has not really improved.

I have spoken with multiple clinics, and this type of long-term pain in the transplant zone seems to be uncommon. One possibility that has been mentioned is that the punch/incision may have been too deep or too large, leading to extra fibrosis or scarring in the area, pressing on nerves. An ultrasound showed post-operative fibrosis in the transplanted zone (much thicker area than non-transplant)

The clinic that did the transplant has now suggested Kenacort injections into the painful area. I am still trying to figure out whether that is actually a sensible approach or whether I should be looking for something else, as this has risks.

For hair loss treatment, I used minoxidil from 2020 to 2025 and finasteride from 2021 to 2025, both oral and topical at different times. I stopped both in summer 2025.
Since 2022,I developed an anxiety disorder followed by many random physical symptoms, including unexplainable inflammations/pain. The anxiety has improved, but since 2025 I have had a lot of brain fog and dizziness/lightheadedness, especially when I need to concentrate on work. I also often feel generally unwell and tired/motivationless, like I am ill but am not. I am fearing PFS, but have not really found an expert on it. I am European.

I have spoken with many doctors since I started having these symptoms. I have already been evaluated by dermatologists, a pain clinic, ENT, a gastroenterologist, a neurologist, a endocrinologist, a psychiatrist, and a psychologist. Most is being attributed to "stress related symptoms".

I have also tried a lot of supplements with little benefit on the health side of things.

On the hairloss side, I am currently still doing LLLT, PRP, microneedling, and rosemary oil for hair maintenance, but it definitely does not feel the same as the finasteride + minoxidil combination did.

My main questions are:

If you've had a transplant, have you experienced long-term pain on the transplant site years after FUE? Did anything help with the pain/bumps? Experience with cortisone injections?

If you've taken hairloss medication, have you had brain fog, dizziness, anxiety, or a constant malaise feeling after stopping finasteride/minoxidil? What helped?

Any experience, advice, or thoughts would be appreciated. I'm posting multiple issues at once, but I do feel they are connected and figured Reddit might have some insights as the specialists I've been seeing don't really seem to have a solution for me.

Thanks for reading.
