Success stories needed
Hi everyone! Thank you in advance for reading this. We have a 3 yr old bully mix and we are in the early stages of introducing her to a 7 month old kitten (3weeks in). So far we’ve kept them separate. They see each other through a baby gate for a few minutes every day. We reward the dog when she turns away from the cat — 80% of the time she will listen to us and turn away. The cat is super comfortable around us and the dog. We end the meeting if the dog gets too fixated. Last night we had a positive moment where the dog sniffed the cats butt through the gate (yay!) but then there was also a quick air nip from the dog in the cats direction (no growling, no lunging, no whining) just a quick air bite — probably her way of saying ok this is too stimulating I need space. And we gave her space.
Our dog lived with a cat before, he was a senior and passed a couple years ago. So we did not anticipate a tough intro but we’re happy to tackle it. Just want to read some success stories of pets that took a lot of time and training to get to a good spot. Help me with my morale please 🙏🏼.
