Transitioned back to a flip phone two days ago after eight years of "smart"phone ownership. It's been awesome!

I've wanted to do this for a while but kept delaying because I was just too comfortable with my smartphone. But my boys are 5 and 2 years old now and the older one has lately asked me why I'm always on my phone. Broke my heart so I decided fuck it, my sons and wife deserve a better me. I instantly felt relief when I swapped my SIM card, powered off my Android, and put it in a drawer. Though now I'm starting to notice how everyone else around me is constantly on their phone lol.

I told my family and my dad acted incredulous, saying he could never give up his smartphone because he's "too addicted to Reels." Shit's depressing...

For those wondering, I got a Sunbeam Pro Dove.

"This should really be two articles..."

Can we all agree that this is the most useless advice someone can give? Yes, I know my article is too long. Unfortunately, that's what student editors seem to like. If I split my 30k article into two 15k articles, my publication prospects dwindle significantly...

You know you're about to receive an outrageous quote when a contractor makes you watch a slideshow going through their company's history and mission.

Anyone else experience this? A windows company pulled this crap on me yesterday and then the guy acted offended when I didn't accept his same-day "deal" of $5,100 for three basement hopper windows. "You struck me as a serious homeowner, not somebody who would settle for low quality product." "I really thought we'd be doing business with you today." All said in a sad tone as if I'd personally offended him and his family. And no, sir, I don't care about how nice your company's founder is nor the amount the company donates to charity. I just want the best price.

I've only had this happen two other times, the first time a roofing company that tried to sell me a $30k new roof when I just wanted ventilation, and the second time another window company that tried to convince me to replace all my windows for $43k and ultimately refused to give me a separate quote for basement windows (despite promising they'd do so).

I'm at a point where I might just kick out any future contractor who whips out a laptop or tablet and asks me to sit down. But I'm guessing this strategy works on some people? No clue why...

Is $2.6k a decent price for three basement windows?

I live in a medium-to-high cost of living area and purchased a 1939 home last year. The basement windows are in abysmal condition and need replaced. The three windows slightly vary in sizes (28.0"x14.0", 29.25"x15.75", and 30.75"x16.75"). I have a couple window companies coming and the first one, Window Nation, gave me the following quote:

> Your project will include the following:
> * Custom manufacture all windows per specifications on the work order > * Professional installation by factory-trained and certified professionals > * High performance trim coil > * Quad Max Sealant > * Quad Max Foam > * Preventative Concrobium mold spray treatment > * Comprehensive lifetime warranty on the windows, glass packs, parts and screen > * Additional "Worry-Free" in-home service warranty > * All shipping and delivery costs > * Any applicable product taxes

> Total Price: $ 5,139.00
> Current Incentives: -$ 2,503.00

> Final Price: $ 2,636.00
> Quote Valid Until: 7/1/2026

I'm not swayed by the 50% off thing because I'm guessing it's just bullshit to make the customer feel like they got a great deal. And I'm guessing I could get a little wiggle room on that quote expiration date. But still, I'm wondering if this is a decent deal? I'm worried about the company not being local; I get scam vibes from more nationally based companies like Window Nation, but I know that's not always a fair assessment...

Was uncovering the root flare of my tree (Sycamore, I think?) at my newish house when I discovered a bunch of tiny roots had grown under the dead leaves that had piled up over the years. What should I do with this? I know I shouldn't technically cover it but I find it so ugly...
