Yes, we all love horror films and most of us are desensitized and haven't been scared since we were a teen or kid. Movies overall have gotten scarier compared to that time period, we just aren't a kid anymore and built a resistance.
So please just judge if it was a good time or not. If you seriously just judge it by if it was scary or not you are going to be hating on like 99% of horror films. You aren't cool for saying it wasn't scary you are just annoying and lame. So please bring more to a horror movie discussion then it wasn't scary.
Now id love to end this post with an actual discussion so whats the last horror movie you just truly enjoyed that was a surprise to you?
Horror is a genre where sequels are typically definitely over done. That doesn't mean there aren't some great movies out there that aren't untouchable masterpieces that had an interesting enough world or characters that more couldn't have been done with it.
So for you what is a horror movie with no sequels that you'd give one to/want to see one made. And no answers of movies that are seemingly getting sequels like It Follows.
My 2 choices would be The Skeleton Key. A movie that just left me feeling not okay at the end. Ik the plot twist has been revealed but id like a sequel where good triumphs over evil. My other choice would be The House of the Devil. Aka essentially the best Omen prequel type of movie we've gotten in years. Would like to see that story carried to its clear next step.

Have lived in Texas for 5 years, when first moved here we rented a house that was a few blocks away from a local park with a trail. I have a mixed beagle who loves to go on walks and I'd walk him at least once a day, long as it wasn't 100+ or absolutely freezing.
This event happened during our second winter here. It was early December I think and it was cold enough that the sidewalks had gotten just slightly icey. Normally I wouldn't walk him in these weather conditions, but it was supposed to snow the next day and I knew he wouldn't get a walk for 4 or 5 days after today, so I carefully carried on.
The way our house is set we are toward the end of a dead end, you walk to the end of the block turn the corner and then its like a straight shot of several blocks combined that go straight to the park. I'm about midway through this long stretch when a car passes by verrry slowly. Going like 5 mph in a street you can go 30 on. Yes the sidewalks were a bit icy but the streets were fine and there was no reason to go THAT slow. Like maybe if you are looking for a specific house sure, but other then that it just felt off. I can see 2 male looking figures in the car, but can't really make out their features besides that I can tell its dudes. They go to about the 3/4 mark up the street then flip a u-turn and park, but don't turn the engine off!
Now I am even more freaked out, because they flipped the u-turn and parked the wrong direction on the street. So that they'd still be watching me. Now I'm not scared for myself, I'm moreso thinking in my head they want to take my dog. He's a good looking boy and could easily go for at least a couple hundred. He has a really pretty brown on top white on bottom pattern that just looks so traditional for a dog, I get compliments on him often. Whether about his looks or that he would make a good hunting dog etc.
So I briskly walk by them trying not to look like I'm looking at their car and after I pass them I'm trying to keep the car just inside my peripheral without turning my head back. I cross the street with my dog to the park. As I do the car flips another u-turn and is coming toward us. I walk very fast through the parking lot and to the trail. The trail is like a giant upside down U and once you get past the long straight away the middle part is completely covered by trees. The car parks in the park parking lot facing the trail and once again they are just watching! At this point I feel very certain they want to take my dog, jump me, or both. Because of how cold it is there are no other cars in the parking lot and not another soul in the park. I'm completely alone.
I watch them until I get to the tree covered part to make sure they don't get out of their car and come after us. Once covered I whip out my phone and call my wife who was out shopping and in the check out line when I called. I tell her what happened and ask her how long it'd take her to get to the park in her car? She said about 15 mins. Walking through this part of the trail would take about 10 mins. So I slow our walk to a crawl. There's a secondary parking lot where the end of the trail comes out. I tell her to park against the sidewalk not in a parking spot. But to tell me if the cars still there/in the secondary parking lot now.
We have each other tracked on our phones, we moreso just use that to time when to start cooking dinner for the other. Whether I or she's cooking if the other is working or gone we try to have a hot meal on the table for each other. So using the app I wait til I see she's on the main road down the street. I don't want to come out of the covering too early and those guys spot me. It doesn't help that i've been paranoid this whole time watching my back and front cuz they could have came from either direction if they wanted to.
My wife pulls up, the cars still in the next parking lot over. I throw the dog in the back and tell her to go, go. She does. We book it out of there. Instead of having her turn onto our street I have her exit the neighborhood and I go fill up her gas tank. Did not want that car knowing for certainty where we lived. Never saw that car again, but I feel certain just based on the odd things they did that they had ill intentions for my dog and I.
Tried to think of a new kind of motive/movie. A Scream movie where we don't have a list of new suspects, and getting away with it is more important than fame or something related to Sid.
It's Halloween 2026. We see the outside of a house, tp'd and covered in graffiti referencing being a murderer or demon whatever. Inside the house a rough looking seen better days Hank Loomis downs a glass of scotch. He recieves a prank call. Someone pretending to be Billy, blaming him for everything thats happened in Woodsboro, his death, his moms, all of the victims etc. Maybe even throw out a line about not even being able to give any financial support to his grand daughter. Whatever floats your boat. Eventually things are said that make Hank feel like he's being watched. The doorbell rings. He heads to the front of the house and opens the door, no one's there. He turns around and starts to walk back into the foyer. A noose drops from the stairs above and GF hangs him. Then takes the phone that he dropped from the floor and types up a quick suicide note.
Gale (our MC for this movie) comes to town to cover the apparent suicide of the father of infamous psychopath Billy Loomis. At this point no one realizes a GF is on the loose. This is by design. We have a new GF, one that doesn't want the fame or to be known, they just want to do the killing. Who are they killing? Any somewhat important family member to previous Ghostfaces or victims. As Gale starts doing research she she's that other people connected to various victim's and GF have died in strange ways. Stu's mom downed a bottle of pills. Casey Becker's parents died in an automobile accident. Theres also so hotshot local news reporter who's younger and beautiful that wants to work with Gale, but Galr refuses not wanting another Debbie Salt incident.
Fearing for her ex mother in-laws safety she goes to visit Tatum and Dewey's mom. GF is in a closet watching their convo unfold. Their mom never liked her, even blames her for Dewey's death. As Gale is leaving and her mother in-law is closing and locking the door, Gale see's GF running toward the her mother in-law. Gale tries to get into the house but by the time she does its too late, she's been stabbed and killed. Gale has blood on her as the cops roll up (GF had called the police in advance).
Gale now being held in jail uses her 1 phonecall to call Sid. She's touring a college with Tatum. Sid agrees to come bail her out. Gale tells her how this GF feels different, neither have received taunting calls or anything, they don't seem interested in our OG final girls besides framing Gale.
The killer's next target would be Sam and Tara's mom. (We finally get to see her). Sid and Gale get to her in time. Although they save her, Sid doesn't care for the woman she reminds her of her own mother. Sid goes after GF saying "I'll be right back". She gets a call saying "And never, ever, ever under any circumstances, say I'll be right back." The Meeks are in danger!
Sid lets Gale know, she goes to support Chad and Mindy, Sid goes to the Meeks house to protect Martha Meeks unsure which Meeks the killer will go after next. Sid chose poorly. Martha is fine. GF attacks Chad and Mindy. Mindy is stabbed several times and Chad is knocked out. Gale struggles with GF and in the tussle removes their mask. Its Mark Sidney's husband!
He reveals to her why he did it. As he does he removes the costume and discards it on the floor. After the events of 7 he feared his family would never be free of the GF shadow. So he did the only thing he could to hopefully prevent future attempts. Murder all those involved in some capacity. As he finishes his explanation he puts the knife in Gales hand and stabs himself. Sid shows up right when this happens. Mark explains that Gale called him for backup and then stabbed him. Sid has to decide if her close friend or her husband is GF. We see flashbacks of her not believing Derek. Unable to betray her husband she shoots and kills Gale.
We see the young news reporter giving a report showing Gale Weathers to be the GF and listing all the evidence Mark planted. We see a happy Sid and all of the family including Mark having some nice family time as the movie comes to a close. Sid looks at her husband with slight doubt for a second, but brushes it off. A GF finally got away with it. End of 8

So I tried to think up something new. What I came up with is what if we had a GF killing to protect Tatum Prescott? Think about it this way. We've seen how horror junkies exist and become GF, what if you had horror junkies that wanted to live out their try to survive a horror movie dream? Imagine Tatum being in college but all her friends aren't really her friends, they are just using her hoping a GF appears so they can try and survive the movie. The GF could be a boy thats into Tatum and trying to save her from the fakes. Essentially a GF thats kind of a good guy without the audience realizing it til the reveal?
What new GF motives can ya'll think up?
It should have been Roman. I think Sid having like a nephew that she's not sure she can trust thats technically family would be great. Especially after Jill. Would he be a ghostface? A victim due to lack of trust like Derek? Or the potential franchise carrier after her? Would be kind of ironic that Roman technically starts the franchise (based on Scream 3 Lore) and his direct blood could continue the franchise.
Thoughts?
I actually liked the creepy vibe throughout and thought it was a solid horror film until the end. We see her turn off running water, put her mom back in bed, not go into the bathroom when the lights flipped on. All of these choices stylistically left room for someone to be in the house fucking with her. I was really hoping this was the route it'd go in the end. As a non-believers of the paranormal she would be proven right in the end and have to find off some psycho. Pulling the rug out from under the audiences feet and switching the horror genre would have been really cool.
Instead the ending felt really predictable and just leading to it the whole way. Overall just an eh horror film, but thats how most have felt these days, so oh well.
The reveal for me in Scream 5 is the weakest in the franchise as it seems the most inevitable amd predictable by act 3, even tho its overall a very even and solid entry into the franchise. By the end it seems pretty clear that its Richie and Amber. Richie trying to convince Sam that its Tara just has no legs to stand on based what she's been through.
So my What If? The thing that I think could have elevated 5 to potentially best sequel status is 3 killers and what if Tara was in on it with Richie and Amber? Richie would flip on Sam and instead of Tara saving Sam, she kills her. I know this might seem like a waste of Sam's dad being Billy. But Tara's motivation would be revenge against Sam for abandoning her and she would flip on Richie and Amber and survive once Sid and Gale showed up. She would get what was supposed to be Jill's storyline in the original 5 idea of a GF being hunted by a GF.
Having 3 killers like in 6 and 7 and all of them dying just seems like a waste. Also the movie posing it as Richie or Tara and it being both would have been truly shocking. Making Tara like the Billy Loomis of 5 and ironically killing his daughter.
Thoughts? Ready for lot of hate, but I think this sub could use more fun what ifs?
My personal choice is Tom Holland. His Spiderman movies are fine, he just doesn't feel like Spiderman to me. The alt world where Dylan O'brian won the job I'd have like to seen that Spiderman.

For me personally it's Black Panther 2 and not making Killmonger Black Panther.

Bringing in Namor who lives in the ocean just set up Killmonger's revival so well. He literally said "just throw my body in the ocean". Namor could have found his body and used a mystical ocean artifact to bring him back. Then they team up and eventually Killmonger would flip become BP and carry on T'challa's mission. This also sets up a crazy BP3 of most Wakandans not liking or trusting him and him having to truly earn the throne and figure out what a king really is.

My second choice would be more Tobey and Andrew movies. Disney literally had a chance to just print money with 3 Spiderman's getting a new movie like every 8 months. For some reason chose not to tho.
