In my recent Eastern Rome run, whenever I fight the Mamluks, I beat them in wars (they are pretty close) where the lose approximately 300k people in each. Yet in 10-15 years they can very well recover. Meanwhile in real life these kind of exhausting wars were what ended both Eastern Rome and Persia. I don't think it's easy to replace 200-300k pops in such a short time.
Should the Mamluks have some kind of disasters when they lose certain wars or something like that?
