Why Does YouTube Detect HDR From NVIDIA ShadowPlay, But Not From DaVinci Resolve?

Why Does YouTube Detect HDR From NVIDIA ShadowPlay, But Not From DaVinci Resolve?

The left screenshot is a file from NVIDIA and right an example of one rendered in Davince. I've tested so many formats and followed countless tutorials, but nothing works. The weird part is: if I record directly with NVIDIA ShadowPlay and upload the file without any editing, YouTube processes the HDR correctly every time.

But as soon as I export through DaVinci Resolve, YouTube refuses to detect/process HDR.

I've tried:

H.265, AV1, H.264, ProRes MP4/MOV BT.2020 / REC 2100 HDR PQ / HDR HLG ST2084 HDR metadata enabled and disabled Dolby Vision enabled and disabled CST nodes Quick Export presets and fully custom presets 60fps and other frame rates Different tags and metadata settings

Nothing changes.

And yes, I already waited many weeks to confirm processing time wasn't the issue. As I said, uploads directly from NVIDIA ShadowPlay get processed as HDR every single time and fast.

What else can I drive here? Youtube processing HDR seems completly random

Davince version: 20.2 Windows 11

YouTube ProRes 422 HQ vs H624. Two Pass enable or disable?

“I know that YouTube recompresses videos, but does uploading in ProRes 422 HQ instead of H.264 actually make any noticeable difference? I did some testing, and I’m not sure if I could spot anything major. Sometimes the image looks just a tiny bit sharper, but that could just be placebo. I’m using an OLED display, and the only thing I consistently noticed is that the blacks look slightly deeper. I mainly work with 4K and 8K videos.

My second question is: does enabling two-pass rendering make any visible difference in image quality compared to having it disabled?”

Does anyone know if switching between presets like fast, medium, and slow when rendering a video actually makes any difference? I’ve rendered several videos using different presets, but I can’t notice any visible change. Is there any especific ocasion that would make a difference? Choose slow or medium would make any difference when posting on youtube? 4K or 8k?
