Is 16 GB of RAM enough?

Hello!

I'm looking for a new pc for video editing, a laptop to be exact. I have searched various online stores, and one computer brand has caught my eye, MSI. These computers not only look cool to me, but they are also reasonably priced for me. However, all laptops they have under 1500 euros have 16 gb of ram.

Now I'm wondering if 16 GB of RAM is enough for DaVinci Resolve or Should I buy laptops from other brands?

If anyone has any other laptop recommendations that are under 1500 euros, they are welcome.

First project, what did I screw up to have this happen

From what I gather it's an issue during export. Tearing/refracting after large amount of black on screen.

Export settings | YouTube 1080p, 1920x1080p, 60fps (timeline fps), MP4, H.264 Codec, Auto Type, High Encoding Profile, Bus 1 (stereo) audio, AAC audio Coded, Project Data burn-in|

20.3.3 exists now, apparantly?

Looks like it's got an important(?) fusion fix for mac users; anyone see anything for the rest of us in this? What are "General performance and stability improvements" when they're at home?

(Edit: It looks from the rest of the patch notes like it's backported fixes from the 21 beta, but anyone know what they are?)

Using multiple planar trackers?

I have a shot of where the camera is moving through a corridor. I want an image being stuck on the wall.

The planar tracker's surfaces is moving out of frame while the image is still visible.

Is there a way to add a new planar tracker that takes over the moment the first one gets done with?

Also, one side-issue that I have been facing is that the media that's being stuck on the wall randomly disspears from the video at a certain position in the frame (far left for my case as of now)

This is the fusion branch:

ImageOnWallMedia->LumaKeyer->Transform->CornerPosition->Brightness/Contrast->PlanarTransform->Merging in the main timeline

I couldn't exactly find any reasoon why this is happening going through my nodes and golbal in/out times.
Using Davinci 20.3.3 Free version

Thanks!

Adding values to keyframe attributes

Hi all!

I'm currently trying to figure out how best to run some sort of expression to add a given value to all keyframes of a single attribute. For instance, I've got a bunch of transform keyframes on a bit of text in Fusion, so there are a load of X and Y values spread around, but if I want to add, say, 5 to ALL of the X values only, is there some way to do that? In Maya for instance, I'd simply highlight all the keyframes in the graph editor, then in the value box, I'd type "+=5" and it'd apply a value of +5 to all the selected keyframes. I just don't want to have to go through each and every keyframe, then type in the new number manually!

Thanks!

How do I make The no signal TV.. thing..

I want to learn how to make something like this, like a TV broadcast error screen! For indie horror. (Now I need to put some extra details because apparently I'm breaking rule 11)

Reasons why I need this: I'm not bad at editing, but learning how to edit things like this can REALLY improve ME! So ME GOOD EDITER! ME GOOD HAPPY

Reasons why you should help me: Because you're very smart, and because Pretty PLEASE with a cherry on top, maybe?

My story: I am illiterate. That’s essentially it.

Also, VHS: I would love to learn how to create my own VHS tapes. Instead of searching for VHS videos online and downloading them, I want to explore making them myself!!

How do you export only the active 2.39:1 image from a 16:9 timeline in Resolve?

I've got a 16:9 project where I've overlaid letterboxing to achieve a 2.39:1 frame. So the active image area is 3840x1608 inside the letterboxing, while the timeline resolution remains 3840x2160.

I'm trying to export only the active 3840x1608 image area from the Deliver page using a custom resolution, but it's exporting incorrectly with black borders around the image.

I'm trying to avoid changing the timeline resolution to 3840x1608 because it affects how certain effects like vignetting behave/look.

Any advice on the proper workflow for this?

EDIT: The letterboxing is created using an adjustment clip cropping the top and bottom over the entire timeline.

Crazy spline mask glitch? In fusion please help

I’ve just spent hours rotoscoping this person’s legs and am thinking of doing the same after the entire mask broke for seemingly no reason?
No other way to explain really, I’ll pop up a video, I may have pasted the mask over to another version of the clip, was working fine. Then possibly closed Davinci, and opened it later only to find it completely messed up :(

"Blur" Effect for Audio?

Is there a quick "blur"/muddle/soften effect for audio somewhere in the default DR suite? I've looked for in a couple times, but never found it.

I find it hard to believe that it's not there somewhere, but I've had to use this third-party plug-in as a replacement just for that. The plug-in is kind of a pain in the ass though, because by default I have to turn off the two effects on the side every time I use it. It's also kind of buggy.

Bitrate for 4K instagram reel with film grain?

I’ve been working on a reel for my job, and it’s as the title describes. I exported it at 50Mbs, since I saw that recommended online and there’s a fair amount of motion in it. The video, when uploaded to IG, came out a blurry mess. Any recommendations on export bitrate in Davinci resolve?

Word of advice: Davinci Certificate is a great tool to test your knowledge but it's not "easy"

TL;DR: Read the DaVinci Resolve Editor Guide, practice to remember what the different playhead colors mean, and pay close attention to detail. You have 50 questions to answer in one hour, so you don't have much time to search for answers—but it's a great way to test your actual knowledge.

I am writing this post to:

  1. Share my excitement about having passed the test (yeah!!!).
  2. Offer some advice for those looking to get certified (I looked for these tips myself, but couldn't find them beforehand).

My background: I’ve played around with DaVinci for a long time, but last week I decided to step up my game and read the DaVinci Resolve Editor Guide. It’s an easy read and truly awesome material. Beyond structuring what I already knew, I acquired a lot of new knowledge. If I had read it earlier, I think I would have saved hours that I otherwise "lost" watching tutorials.

So, after finishing it yesterday evening, I decided to take the test this morning.

First things first: Yes, it’s an open-book test, but don't be mistaken—the time limit will severely restrict your ability to search for answers. There are 50 questions to answer in only one hour. Some are easy, others are a bit more tricky.

Simply knowing how to do things (multicam editing, compound clips, etc.) is not enough. If you have to search through menus, you will run out of time (I finished mine in 50 minutes). You also need to know the specific technical vocabulary—I'm looking at you, fellow non-native English speakers! ;)

Something I feel is important to underline: yes, you can copy/paste a question into your favorite AI or search the manuals. And yes, in my personal opinion, that's fine for a couple of questions. But at the end of the day, only you will know how much of your knowledge this certificate really represents. Ultimately, I think it’s a great tool to test your skills and identify what you need to study further.

I will try (if it’s possible) to take it again in a few months. This time, I hope to improve my score (I got 86% this time) without having to look at references. That way, I'll be able to measure my progress!

[Studio 20.3.2] Anyway to make this effect more powerful?

I wanted to make this effect of rising, falling and moving away seem more evident, as I don't really hear the difference. To be honest, with Pan off it seems better because it's louder for some reason

Btw am I making the 8D audio on the right way? I would like anyone who listens to them to feel goosebumps and say "Wow, this audio is playing inside my head" xD

How can I replicate these animated titles (with a depth effect)?

Those titles look great - I know I can create them with the basic functions of fusion, I just don’t know how…

u/KindleKiran — 23 hours ago

I'd like help creating frames within a video as a template where I can insert footage kind of like frames in Canva (Image Included)

So as the title says, I'm looking to create a template where I can just plug in different videos (same subject, different angles, synced by waveforms) and be able to resize the videos within the frame without having to worry about cropping or transforming in the event that I need to change the rotation angle.

I have no idea the technical way of asking for this so I created this image as a guide. It is laid out similarly to how the end result will be.

Please let me know if you have any ideas or how I should go about finding this information (I'm still a noob, sorry).

Thank you!
