During the years that Digital Circus was active, it was truly wonderful... Now that it has come to an end, I think it deserves a few words. More than just a series, it was a magnificent phenomenon, something that captivated most people... something that entertained millions, without exaggeration. It was a project that transcended the boundaries of the internet and reached a pinnacle of glory in popular culture.
An independent project whose initial, nostalgic idea was simply to be just another 2D series, ended up becoming the biggest independent viral phenomenon on the Internet and across much of the world, culminating today/tomorrow with a near-global theatrical release in various regions. I don’t think Glitch and Goose ever imagined this would happen, and yet it did… for better or for worse.
It began with a captivating and chaotic (as it would always be) pilot episode, yet also with a dreamlike and serious touch when it needed to be. Beyond the case of Pomni, who was at the time well-known for more than just the series, I think the pilot episode will obviously be remembered for much more than that.
Step by step we got to know these characters, step by step we made connections between a Harlan Ellison book and this colorful series. Step by Step, we create memes!, and step by step we formed theories, step by step we believed them! step by step... it came to an end.
In these last few days and months, there was controversy between one part of the community and the other majority. Some were quite aggressive in their reactions to situations outside the series, which ended up affecting all of us. I think I speak for everyone when I say that none of those people should truly represent the TADC community; that we who truly support Goose are actually just the silent majority; that we are the larger majority who truly love the series... But the damage was done.
The latest controversy that occurred was the terrible leak of the entire TADC movie. No one saw it coming. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, other than the hackers’.
I didn’t believe a word of what they said about the ending, because if someone was willing to watch the leak of something that was made with so much effort to be loved by the audience, it means they don’t understand or love the series, or the team behind it. I will enjoy the end for myself!
Apart from that, there were people who got spoiled, and I’m really sorry about that... but I still hope you enjoy this experience the way Goose and Glitch intended—no doubt, that would make them feel better about their creation. Let’s not let someone’s spoiler stop us from watching this with the same love we’ve always had for it.
I just wanted to let whoever is reading this know that I love Digital Circus... We love it—yes, we, and you know!!—we love Digital Circus... So much that we hoped it would never end...
Thank you for teaching us so many things, thank you for helping some of us see life differently—relationships, friendships, love, laughter... We’ll never forget them, nor will they be erased from the internet.
Simply, Thank you...
Thank you, Pomni, for teaching us to be kind to everyone and to be braver. (And that sometimes you have to be rude.)
Thank you, Jax, for teaching us that not everything is serious.
Thank you, Ragatha, for teaching us to be careful with what we say and do, and to hang in there, above all.
Thank you, Zooble, for teaching us that we have to be ourselves to love and be loved. And for being brave above all else, speaking up to demand kindness when it’s needed, even if you do it your own way.
Thank you, Gangle, for teaching us that it’s okay to express ourselves, that sometimes we don’t need masks to hide our feelings.
Thank you, Kinger, for teaching us so many things... like how to face loneliness, always being there for others, giving space in relationships, accepting yourself, that you don’t always win (and that’s okay), and being kind even when we don’t even know “where” is happening.
Thank you, Caine, for teaching us to be ourselves; even though it annoyed many, many of us loved you... and that’s how it will be in real life when you want to be yourself. You were always strong; even though you were an AI, you were human...
Thank you, Bubble, for the feast you gave us.
Thank you, Glitch, for giving a wonderful creator this opportunity.
And Goose, when you started all this, you surely didn’t think it would turn into something so big… So big that it might have overwhelmed you. We can’t say the journey wasn’t worth it, but certainly, the people who called you out over every little thing were exasperating. There were so many of them that they were few, so many words that none of them were worth reading... But the majority of us who were always supporting you—unfortunately, we were very quiet. Perhaps so that that toxic part of the community would never reach us. The truth is that I... I’m not very good at lifting spirits... But I hope that the love of millions of people, on the internet and in the world, feels like a warm hug, from all of us who never criticized you, and who love each and every one of your creations. We love you, and we’re sorry... for being so quiet when we shouldn’t have been.
Thanks Goose. You are the best, even when you denied it. ❤️
