First time being investigated at work — experiences?

Has anyone here gone through an internal workplace investigation for the first time? What was your experience, and what happened afterward? I’m nervous and would really appreciate hearing other people’s experiences.

Currently under workplace investigation for alleged sexual misconduct — how does the union process usually work?

I’m an LPN working in a hospital, and I’m currently under an internal workplace investigation regarding an allegation of sexual misconduct involving a patient. I have not been disciplined or charged with anything, and the investigation is still ongoing.
My union representative is involved, and I’m trying to understand what I should realistically expect from the process.
For anyone who has experience with workplace investigations in healthcare, particularly in Alberta/Canada:
How does the union typically protect or represent an employee during an investigation?
What role does the union representative play during interviews or meetings with management?
What does the investigation process usually look like from the employee’s side?
Will they normally interview the patient/complainant, coworkers, and other people who may have relevant information?
If the patient is no longer at the hospital, how would that affect the investigation?
How long can an investigation like this take?
What happens after the investigation is completed?
If there isn’t enough evidence to substantiate the allegation, what usually happens?
Can an employer continue an investigation without involving police or criminal charges?
I’m obviously not looking for legal advice or trying to discuss identifying details. I’m just anxious about the uncertainty and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar unionized healthcare investigation and can explain what to expect.
Thank you.
