Newly diagnosed question!

I just got diagnosed with genital HSV. I don’t know what type yet because I haven’t been to my follow-up appointment and I forgot to ask on the phone!

However, I am worried about even knowing if I’m having an outbreak or not. My first “outbreak” was the tiniest little cut down there that I thought was a razor cut. Since then, I have been getting like one singular tiny cut that looks like a paper cut down there on and off in different places. If I wasn’t looking for it, I’d miss it. Should I just take antivirals every day to be safe?

This doesn’t bother me at all🫡 The only thing that bothers me is people thinking I have a high body count now because I got this🙄

I was diagnosed today!

I am a 24 year old female and got the call today that my swab was HSV positive (I don’t know what type, I will ask at my upcoming appointment). But it is genital.

I have learned so much through this. I had symptoms that could’ve easily been mistaken for other things. The sore that was swabbed looked like a tiny ingrown hair. I just asked for it to be swabbed for good measure at my STI screening at my yearly OBGYN or my doctor might have not even noticed it.

I am wondering how long i’ve had this and thought the symptoms were something else because it was so mild. I had no flu symptoms. Nothing. Honestly i’d have no idea I had herpes unless I was so hyper vigilant about testing or had some sixth sense to ask for this tiny sore to be swabbed.

My ex boyfriend of almost 2 years cheated on me and then I had unprotected sex with a one night stand. I showed symptoms about 3 months after the one night stand and about 7 months after breaking up with my ex, I have no idea who I got it from.

The point of this post is: I am not letting this destroy my life. There are a LOT of dramatic woe is me posts on here. I think so many people have herpes and have no idea. I think people assume it is always some insane horrible outbreak like you see on google images. I thought mine was a hemorrhoid.
This is an extremely common skin condition. Not cancer, not something that can kill you. I think any man I WANT to date will be educated enough on the topic to understand this.

One more thing I don’t get: Why do people not have to disclose oral herpes? Because you can give someone HSV 1 in their genital area🤔

Anyways, I know this isn’t true for everyone. Some people feel physical pain from HSV and I’m not denying that. All i’m saying is for a lot, this is no big deal and can be something you can easily miss.
