Walter Cronkite preparing to fly with my grandfather’s bomber crew 2/4/1944

I randomly found this USO calendar posted at work in 2021. Had to do a double take; that’s my grandfather 3rd from left. Walter Cronkite (far right) flew with them that day to hit a nazi rocket site in France. Feb 4, 1944

1973 Palmer Station Antarctica

Photos from my dad’s 1973 marine biology work out of Palmer Station in Antarctica. The station looks so different today you wouldn’t recognize it from the photos. The dog Laika would warn them when ice was too thin to walk on but are longer allowed due to disease concerns. Women were also not allowed on base back then, it was a different time!

Palmer Station 1973 photos

Hope someone will enjoy these. Photos from my father’s 1973 adventures at Palmer Station. He was down there doing marine biology work. I currently do supply chain work at a hospital but am hoping to be able to get down there this upcoming austral winter for a work adventure of my own.

Wager machine works barrel nitride refinishing sp2022/2340

TLDR summary for short attention spans: 75$, 3 weeks, recommend service.

Sup yall, just wanted to share my experience. I own a sp2022 that I will keep til I die, it has irreplaceable sentimental value to me, and I do like its performance after upgrades. But outside of 9mm, new barrels are no longer available. Years ago I bought a sp2340 .40 slide and barrel from CDNN. Sight unseen, there was a lot of cosmetic wear, and while I am glad I got it, I decided to refinish it with Nitride to give it some more life.

I used wager machine works. My cost was 75$ OTD. They quote 3-4 weeks for nitride, and had a warning of adding an extra week to nitride turnaround. However, they had it back to me in 3 weeks. The barrel I sent them did have some pitting as you will see, but I am pleased with the nitride and this .40 barrel will be with me til im gone.

I have not had a chance to fire it; a week prior to sending it out, I sent my slides out for optic cuts, and have not heard anything back 5 weeks in.

If you are in California, don’t let ab1263 stop you. The process was easy, and Wager is friendly to our cause.
