First Oil Painting in Years, Next Steps?
Hello! I am making an oil painting and I am used to using acrylics. When I did use oil paint, I did not do it the steps correctly like fat over lean or dark to light or blocking in major forms. I have posted the progression of my work above. I am happy with how it’s looking so far (mainly the trees/sky) but I feel kind of stuck whenever I have to get to making the painting more detailed. Any tips for rendering difficult textures (I am struggling with the dirt/rocks on the left side of the painting).
How do you know what to do next and how do you manage difficult textures/details?
EDIT: Reference being loosely followed is second image.
