delayed baggage reimbursement
hi all, looking for tips ahead of submitting receipts for baggage delay reimbursement. I flew from the US to Europe for a work trip (I’m a music performer) on a flight that was meant to be United > Airlines Canada but due to a delay in Denver became United > Lufthansa (so Lufthansa is responsible for the baggage delay), and it’s now day 6 of the trip still without my bag, which included all my toiletries, makeup, clothes, and performance outfit/shoes. I’ve had to buy all new skincare + makeup (which was almost US $500 at Sephora since it’s the only place I knew I could find what I needed/what I typically use — and I have a version of everything I bought in my checked baggage) and then of course socks, underwear, a bra (also expensive because my bra size is rare/not carried at typical stores like H&M etc.), a pair of jeans + two shirts from H&M, and a pair of boots, gloves, and a coat from a second hand shop (I flew in clothes that were not acceptable for the work dinners/meetings I needed to attend). Any expense that I had that was above “most basic” was necessary for my work because I need to dress for stage and “artist” appearances and though I ended up spending not a small amount of money, I still did it as frugally as possible without compromising my typical self-upkeep routine that I maintain as an artist/performer. I waited until day 3 to make most of these purchases at which point I couldn’t wait any longer due to the obligations on my schedule.
I know they have to reimburse me for underwear, socks, and toiletries, but I’m absolutely going to need them to reimburse me for the rest of the expenses as well — I’m not a reckless shopper and am very frugal/careful about the way that I buy, so I would absolutely not have made any of these purchases had they not essentially lost my bag for 6 days of an 8 day work trip (the bag is meant to be delivered today but they’ve said that before). Additionally, I luckily had an airtag in my bag so I was sending THEM updates about where my bag was up to multiple timed a day and am sure they’d have lost it for much longer had I not been able to provide the airtag location as well as screenshots for multiple sources on their end.
Any advice on the best way to make sure I’m properly reimbursed? I’m not expecting compensation, but am expecting a full reimbursement for these expenses.
