OHMSS would have been my no. 1 Bond, if it had Connery in it.
The book OHMSS was written having a seasoned secret agent in mind. He's on the verge of giving it all up and settling down with a woman. It makes perfect sense for Bond to reflect on such thoughts after serving many years on her majesty.
The producers couldn't make OHMSS prior to YOLT just because there was this devastating series of avalanches sweeping all the Alps in 1966. I mean if they could calm their balls for a few months or maybe a year we would have had OHMSS with Sean, instead we get this underwhelming YOLT stitch up by Roald Dahl.
And God! Why were the producers so arrogant to Sean?
They let him leave the franchise than making an effective and compelling film which is true to the writer's intent.
Lazenby was a new actor (wannabe actor) younger than Connery. He did what he could do the very best with it, but it's a crime they didn't have Connery do it. Edit: I don't want Brigitte Bardott or Donald Pleasence in OHMSS. This poster was obviously a fan edit done long back.
