Severe molar abscess, failed extraction due to anesthesia not working

Hi, I’m a teenager dealing with a very painful molar infection and I really need advice because I feel stuck and anxious. I was diagnosed/likely dealing with a dental abscess in a molar, and a dentist attempted to extract it, but the local anesthesia didn’t seem to work properly because of the infection, and I was still in significant pain during the procedure, so it could not be completed. The tooth also seems very sensitive at the crown and was difficult to extract.

After that, I was given antibiotics and told to return later, but the pain is still very strong. I’m now very scared of going back because of how painful and distressing the experience was. The dentist also looked visibly annoyed during the attempt, which made me feel even more uncomfortable and scared. My current dentist only uses local anesthesia and doesn’t offer sedation or other pain management options, so I’m worried the same thing might happen again.

At home, my parents aren’t really helping and told me to just “suck it up,” so I feel like I don’t have much support or guidance on what to do next. I also live in a country where it’s very common for people to just endure dental pain, and sedation dentistry is very rare or not easily accessible, which makes it harder for me to know what options I realistically have.

I’m not sure what the right next step is. Is it normal for local anesthesia to fail in infected molars or abscess cases like this? Should the infection/abscess be reduced more first before attempting extraction again? In cases like this, is referral to an oral surgeon usually recommended, or are there other anesthesia techniques that make extraction possible? I really want to treat this properly, but I’m also very anxious after what happened.
