Why and how have they been hiding Peter Capaldi in Costume for so long?

So Peter Capaldi has been hinting at being in the new season of Only Murders in the building since July, which he then confirmed last weekend at Wales Comic Con and then was officially announced by the press yesterday. However not a single picture or footage of Peter in costume has been leaked or release and no one has said that they saw him on set. Why and how they hiding him? Are all his scenes in doors? Is he playing a very important character that they want to keep secret? Or is he wearing a weird costume or prosthetics?

How far do you think they will lean into Americans’ British stereotypes next season?

I’m very excited for the upcoming UK set season of Only Murders but I‘m fully expecting them to lean hard into American stereotypes of British people and culture (also very London centric). As a non stereotypical American who has traveled to the UK many times (all over the UK not just London) and is regularly immersed in UK culture I hope it’s not too embarrassingly stereotypical. I‘m afraid that the best we can realistically hope for is that it feels endearingly chocolate box (somewhere in between Richard Curtis romcoms and the first two Paddington movies). I expect lots of Posh and Cockney accents and very little other regional representation (maybe one Scotsman and one or two vaguely northern sounding character).

Peter Capaldi Comic Con Wales

I can’t go to Comic Con Wales because I’m saving up to see Peter Capaldi in Concert this December, but decided to make this thread so that people who are seeing him today can fill in those of us who can’t go. I’m particularly interested in anything he says during his panel both Doctor Who and non Doctor Who, especially if he hints anything about upcoming music and acting projects (last panel he dropped several hints about him being in Only Murders in the Building).

12/Clara parallel with the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice

Thinking about how 12 and Clara directly parallel with the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in Face The Raven/ Heaven Sent and Hell Bent only confirms my belief that 12 is a young man in an older man’s body.12 has an arc that is is usually reserved for a young romantic leading man (like how Orpheus is portrayed in mythology and pop culture),which is closer to who he is on the inside than any stereotypical grumpy old man that he appears on the surface.

Has anyone else noticed Orpheus and Eurydice parallel with 12 and Clara?

Who do you think will be the celebrity (or celebrities)to play themselves this season?

Since every season always has one or multiple celebrities playing themselves who do you think that will be on this very British season of Only Murder?

Mine: I am biased because he’s my favorite actor but it would be funny if (the currently hinted at) Peter Capaldi played himself and had one of the main trio be a fan of him in Doctor Who constantly trying to ask Peter annoying fan questions or to have Peter be a fan of the only murders podcast and have him tag along to help solve the murder 🤭

Season 6 predictions

What are your season 6 predictions?

Mine is that Peter Capaldi is playing a major plot twist character since he hinted at being in Only Murders recently but no announcements, photos or videos have been released of him yet which makes me think they are deliberately hiding his character for some reason. Also I think it’s going to be revealed that all of the Doctor Who actors’ characters in only murders this season are related in some way or all involved in some kind of secret organization.

Has anyone in and around London seen any Only Murders filming recently?

Has anyone seen any only murders in the building filming in London recently? Peter Capaldi hinted at his last panel that he’s in the new season but there haven’t been any casting announcements, videos or photos of him filming unlike David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker and I find that curious

Do you think the Doctor Who actors on the next season of Only Murders will have many scenes together?

Next season on Only Murders we have David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, and now Peter Capaldi has heavily hinted that he is in the next season as well! Plus Derek Jacobi who played the master. Do you think that all the DW actors will have many scenes together? Do you think there will be lots of DW references this season?Could their characters even all be related to each other in some way?

Peter Capaldi recently implied/hinted at that he’s in the new season of only murder in the building

Peter Capaldi has dropped multiple hints recently that he’s in the new season of Only Murders in the Building!

During this interview he said that he would like to do comedy again and that he has new gags he would like to try out:

https://youtu.be/zxiLyQEVM0g?is=icF4hl3_MV-RwCo_

Then during his panel at Comic Con Midlands recently he name dropped both Steve Martin and Martin Short as well as mentioning how he had to get back to work the next day on a project that is a lot of fun but he’s not allowed to talk about it yet and that he has a few weeks more filming: https://youtu.be/-CUp_ndyD6A?is=PuY0rSvp_C38Qaxz

https://youtu.be/OyorsAr5FDY?is=3cCDT-lFVviDKxhf

It would make sense that he’d do Only Murders (besides the fact that they already have David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker announced for this seaso) as Steve Martin was a massive influence on Peter throughout his life: Peter listened to Steve’s comedy albums when he was a teenage, then later when Peter was a standup comedian briefly he said that he was trying to be Scotland’s answer to Steve Martin, then Peter got the idea for this road trip romcom Soft Top Hard Shoulder from Planes Trains and Automobiles.

What do you think ? If Peter is on Only Murders what kind of character do think he’s playing? Has anyone seen Peter out filming Only Murders?

12 should have gotten an episode where he used the chameleon arch and temporarily become young and human

I do feel like there was a big missed opportunity to explore 12 and Clara’s relationship and what could be if the barrier of 12’s age and species difference was gone. Like imagine the Doctor goes missing for an episode and Clara takes in a young artist musician and they start to slowly bond and fall for each and then the young man is alone and looks at his reflection in the mirror and 12 flashes in the mirror (it’s slowly revealing that the young man is 12 transformed with a false memory). Clara knows he’s 12 but doesn’t want to tell him his true identity because he seems really happy with this new young human body and just maybe this is what he wants.

thoughts?

Edit: Even though Clara said she didn’t have an issue with 12 being older. 12 definitely used being older as a self conscious barrier to mask who he is on the inside and to hide his true feelings for Clara. Also Peter would still appear in the episode itself as 12 in flashbacks and visions and after he changes back. I think this episode would actually reinforce how much Clara loves him as is because I would imagine she be supportive of his younger human transformation because it makes him happy but sad because she feels like somethings amiss that they haven’t talked about. And I think after he changed back into Old Peter Capaldi she would give him the biggest hug and maybe even a kiss on the cheek. In a ideal world where DW has a much higher budget I would want Peter to play the younger version as well with digital deaging but realistically it would have to a partial Doctor lite episode with a younger actor who looks like Peter (around when he did Soft Top Hard Shoulder)

Peter Capaldi has said himself that 12 and Clara have “a truly romantic relationship”

Peter Capaldi has said that 12 and Clara have a “truly romantic relationship”: https://youtu.be/K7i62ERas2s?is=9usul1J4rLJENDbb

So have Jenna Coleman and Steven Moff multiple times and it in the writing and acting it’s self. Clara even says that she wants to marry 12 at the end of Last Christmas. I’m not sure why people still think they had a a father daughter/granddaughter grandfather relationship still? I’m going to say it’s purely agism because if Peter looked like he did in 1992 when he played 12 everyone would see it.

Edit: Since people are misinterpreting what mean by if Peter looked like he did in 1992 this is what I mean: What I meant was that if Peter looked like he did in soft top hard Shoulder but in present day like he was in his 30s in 2014/2015 people wouldn’t have a problem with their romance!

I hate it when people compare 12 to Rick from Rick and Morty

I hate it when people compare 12 to Rick from Rick and Morty. 12 is much kinder and more compassionate than that gross Rick. Also I completely disagree that 12 and Clara are like Rick and Morty because Peter himself has confirmed their relationship as “a truly romantic relationship“. Even 12 and Bill who sort of have a grandfather granddaughter relationship are still nothing like Rick and Morty.

Also I hate it when people compare Peter Capaldi looks wise to Rick just because they both older men wild white hair. Peter is much better looking than Rick and doesn’t have a bald spot or an annoying whiney voice like Rick has.

If 12 has to be compared with any animated character I think the closest fit is the Beast/Prince Adam from Beauty and the Beast because 12 has similar character development and his relationship with Clara is very similar to Beast’s relationship Belle.

Unpopular opinion: I’m Glad Peter Capaldi doesn’t want to do Big Finish

Peter confirmed at the panel today once again that he doesn’t want to do Big Finish at the moment and that he’s happy imagining that his Doctor is still out there traveling the universe. I‘m glad! I used to really want Peter to do big finish and even wanted to maybe write for him there but now I don’t think it’s a good fit for him. Big Finish barring a few exceptions like David and Jodie is basically a retirement community for usually older DW actors who have trouble getting other acting work. Also while early BF has some great experimental dramas I think in recent years they have fallen into a formulaic trap of ridiculous cross overs and paint by numbers runarounds. There’s also the moral issue of their audios being very expensive something that Peter disagrees with because he thinks that DW should be free/inexpensive for lower income fans. Peter doesn’t need Big Finish he’s very booked and busy writing songs and touring with his band, he has a ton of new acting gigs coming up and he also mentioned wanting to get back into directing. I don’t think BF (at least how it is set up currently) is a creative enough environment for Peter because he seems to thrive with new challenges not the same old run arounds.

Thoughts?

Edit: I’m sorry if my retirement community comment came across as a little harsh I’m neurodivergent and sometimes come across as a little blunt. I have a lot of respect for working actors (especially older working actors) doing what they have to do to earn money and if they enjoy doing BF while they earn that money I’m happy for them but I do want better opportunities for them because a lot of those actors are very talented. That’s why I’m happy Peter has better opportunities that allow him to really show off all his talents rather than being stuck inside a box.

Peter Capaldi is doing another Comic Con!

Peter is doing another Comic Con this time in Wales August 8 through 9th! I’m honestly shocked he’s doing two cons after not doing them for so long!

I can’t go because I live in the US and I’m saving up to see Peter in concert in December!

To those who do see Peter at Comic Con Wales remember to be respectful to him and if he has a panel please try to ask him different questions (not the same Doctor Who and Thick of It questions he’s been asked a million times). Also it would be great if anyone could film the panel for those who can’t go.

Peter Capaldi is doing a convention for the first time in years!!

https://www.facebook.com/comicconmidlands/

Peter Capaldi is doing the Comic Con Midlands this July! His first convention in years!

I won’t be able to go because I’m in the US and I’m already saving up to go to two of Peter’s concerts in December, but those who do go to the convention in July have fun!

But also please be respectful to Peter so he will keep doing events with his fans and try to ask him different questions not the same DW, Thick of it, and Oscar questions everyone asks him (you can easily find the answer to those questions on Google)

If anyone would film his panel so those who can’t go can see it that would be amazing !

If you want to understand Peter Capaldi as a person more outside of Doctor Who and Thick of It you should watch Soft Top Hard Shoulder

I think Soft Top Hard Shoulder should be required viewing for every Peter Capaldi fan Its his semi autobiographical road trip romcom that he wrote and starred in with his real wife Elaine Collin. It’s very underrated and really shows more of who Peter is as person and his family background as well as proving his talent as a romantic leading man. Its also very funny and heartfelt (also it doesn’t hurt that it’s one of Peter’s handsomest roles).

Also if you are a fan of DW there are loads of similarities if you look for them.

its free to watch on internet archive:

Have you ever watched Soft Top Hard Shoulder? Thoughts?

I wasn’t able to fully appreciate the Capaldi era until I stopped watching Stubagful’s videos

When I firs got into Doctor Who I looked at a lot of video essays including Stubagful. I used to think he was clever and funny but I think his videos on the Capaldi era polluted my brain made it so I wasn’t able to fully appreciate the era especially 12 and Clara’s relationship.

Looking back now Stubagful had very childish hatred for Clara as a character and he never grasped the relationship between 12 and Clara.

After I unplugged from Stubagful and many other toxic whotubers I was finally able see the beautiful romantic tragic love story between 12 and Clara (yes it is romantic Capaldi himself called it “a truly romantic relationship”). The Capaldi era is now my favorite and learning about Peter Capald’s life and career has changed my life and inspired me.

I now actively avoid whotubers videos on the Capaldi era because they never seem to understand the era especially 12 and Clara’s relationship.

other whotubers who avoid for not understanding the Capaldi era/ disliking their interpretation:

Council of Geeks

Mr Tardis

Full Fat Videos

Tharries

Anyone have any similar experiences to me where you have found unplugging from Whotubers has helped your enjoyment of watching Doctor Who?

thoughts?

edit: I forgot to mention Samuel Davie/Dread Davies who I used to like his videos but now I hate him because he is constantly trying to undermine Peter Capaldi by saying that he hates DW fans and that outside of DW Peter has only done D tier comedies and crime shows which couldn’t be further from the truth

I always thought that 12 was a young man trapped inside the body of an older man

I believe that 12 was never actually a grumpy old man he was actually a sensitive young man the same age as Clara that used the grumpy old man persona to mask his true feelings for Clara because he didn’t want to hurt her so he tried to push her away (Peter Capaldi himself said that 12 and Clara have a “truly romantic relationship“). Once Clara confessed at the end of Last Christmas he starts dressing and acting like the young man he is inside instead of trying repress it. I believe if 12 had used the chameleon arc to become human it would turn him into the young artist/musician he is inside.
