8-color hub sharing for Ace Pro 1 and Ace Pro 2

Does anyone know if you can use just the 8 filament hub with an Ace Pro 1 and an Ace Pro 2? I know they won't work together for 8 color printing, but can they just use 4 of the 8 slots each as I only have the cables for 1 of them hooked up?
I got an Ace Pro 2 because I was sick of the Ace 1 breaking and never working, the Ace 2 works great so far. In the meantime, I actually got the Ace 1 working good again. I've tested swapping the 4 color filament hubs at the Kobra S1 entrance, the Kobra recognizes the correct Ace unit and drives it accordingly. Its my impression that the 8 color hub is just essentially a pass through; so could I leave all 8 PTFE tunes hooked up permanently and just hot swap cables to use whichever one I want?
I mainly do single-color printing, the 4 color hubs just make swapping easy.
**bonus note** I also was interested in just using the Ace 1 as a dry box before I fixed it. Today, I turned on its dryer and set the time/temp, then hot swapped the signal cords to run my Ace 2. The Ace 1 kept running the active drying. So, if anyone else is trying to do that, you can hot swap them to turn them on, then hot swap back. I don't know if its just stuck on or will stop when the timer I originally set runs up...I'll find out in like 3 hours, haha.
