Don't get scammed by these assholes......

Complete scumbag and liars. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!

Look at this photo. I rented a car from these douchebags last month in Denver, CO. Never thought to have to note everything wrong down to a pin size. Fast forward a week later when I returned the car and the shithead at the return says to me "looks like you damaged our wheel". My response to him was, "there's no way" - look at this. NO SCUFF mark on the tire anywhere. How would I make this tiny little scratch on the wheel if I never rubbed the tire against something. So he says I can dispute it if I want. So I did. AND I sent an email to their claim center email address asking for proof that the scratch DIDN'T exist before I rented. NEVER responded.

Fast forward to last week - We received a bill via email for over $700 for "repairs" and a claim we never paid when they asked. A LIE. They never even responded or got back to me.

I filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau (waste of time really) and my state Attorney General's office a couple days ago. BBB responded with a response from Sixt:

Hello,

Thank you for your email and for sharing your concerns.

After further review, the damage in question is not documented on the opening rental agreement at the time of vehicle handover. As part of our review process, we compare the condition of the vehicle at the start and end of the rental.

The return check sheet shows this damage documented at the time the vehicle was returned, and the damage was identified during the post-rental inspection. Based on the documentation currently available, the damage was not noted as pre-existing

when the vehicle was rented to you but was noted upon return.

If you have any photos, videos, or other evidence showing that this damage existed prior to the rental, please forward them to us for review. We will gladly consider any additional documentation you provide.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to submit additional information for consideration.

Where on this planet does someone have to prove they didn't do damage before being told to pay for damages? Tell me one country except maybe north korea that this is ok? These guys are criminals, plain and simple. In my country and I suspect the remainder of the world, it's their burden of proof that I did do it.

I've asked them twice now to show me the damage from before I rented the car. I've also demanded proof that they fixed it. And guess what - crickets. No response. Nothing. Calling them was a waste too. When I called, the automated message said I had a 30 second wait.... NOPE. 30 minutes later (have the screenshot for you Sixt!) I was still listening to nothing.

So I did some more digging. Sure enough, they are NOTORIOUS for doing just this type of thing. Telling people to pay for damages that they make up and then bully people into paying - in fact, they lost a class action lawsuit for it:

Scumbags

In conclusion, fuck you Sixt. Go to hell.

** Update **

My response to Steve:

I am rejecting this response because: Tell Sixt to go fucks themselves. Why should I have to prove to them that the wheel was damaged before I took the car but they don't have to prove to me that it wasn't. This is ridiculous. Go look on Reddit - there are literally hundreds, HUNDREDS, of similar claims of this behavior. Plus a class action lawsuit against them for this crap.

BBB - I can hardly believe that this is how you respond to reports of bad business behavior. Why don't you go do some research before inflaming people who are just trying to warn YOU and every other consumer of these horendous practices.

Sincerely,

8/13 - The BBB asked Sixt to respond to my response to "steve" - basically I said they needed to prove that I did the damage. Here's there latest answer:

Hello,

After reviewing your response, we do not find the information provided to be sufficient to support your dispute. As a result, we will continue to pursue recovery for the damages associated with this claim.

As previously explained, the damage was not documented on the signed rental agreement at the time of vehicle handover. Additionally, the damage was noted on the return check sheet at the time the vehicle was returned.

Based on the documentation available, the claim remains valid and you remain responsible for the damages under the terms of the rental agreement.

If you have any new evidence, such as time-stamped photos or videos from the rental period, please forward them for review.

Kind regards,

MESSAGE FROM BUSINESS:

Dear Mark,

All of our rental vehicles are pre-inspected prior to pick up of the vehicle. Please keep in mind that you had the rental vehicle for 9 days and had driven it for 578 miles.

Unless you can provide some evidentiary documentation to prove that the rim was defective/damaged prior to your rental period, then unfortunately we will continue financial pursuit of this claim.

After many years in this business, we certainly know not every incident will be noticed or is personally caused by the renter.

We kindly ask for your understanding and given the background and extent of the damages, we are asserting our right to claim damage compensation from you as per the rental contract you agreed to.

Sincerely,

Sixt US Claims Department

And my response to BBB:

Dear BBB - I think we've concluded our business with each other.

Sixt can write whatever they want. The case is now with the Maryland Attorney General's office, and if they do not take action against Sixt, I will have my own lawyer deal with them. And when I do, I plan to sue them for the cost of my legal fees, and if any possible for the false accusations and claims.

If Sixt has proof that I did this to the car then have them share it with me. They stated quite clearly in their response that they do. So show it to me. I've asked them multiple times to prove I did the damage. Their statement that I drove it for 9 days and over 500 miles is completely irrelevant. How does that have ANYTHING to do with a scratch on the wheel. You'd have to be a complete moron to accept that as their proof that I damaged their car.

All of this could have been avoided if they just proved it to begin with. If I had damaged it, I would pay to fix it. But let's be real here - that little scuff on the rim is probably a $100 repair at best, and they would NEVER waste the time to fix it. Their demand for $700 is just as stupid as the rest of this. I'm willing to bet the same $700 they want from me that the car still has the same scuff on the wheel as when I returned it a month ago.

So, in conclusuion, F Sixt. They are liars, cheats, scumbags. Please make sure to share this with them. Along with asking them to go to Reddit and other forums where there are hundreds of similar folks like me who have been accused of damaging their cars but they never proved any of it.

Honda AC

Just curious if anyone else has this with their Ridgeline or any other Honda. My wife’s Lexus and my 20 year old BMW blow ice cold air when I set the thermostat to something cool when it’s hot (70 for example). Lately it’s been in the mid-high 80’s here. My ‘26 Ridgeline blows cold air but not really cold air unless I drop the temp far lower than either of the other two cars - maybe 65 or lower.

Is this just a Honda thing?

Thanks in advance for input.

How to deal with all the rude people

People are so rude in the MARC. Nearly everyone thinks it’s ok to take 2 (or even 3) seats. No eye contact. Fake sleeping. Sitting the aisle seat and putting their bag on the window. It’s been an issue for years. But now that the metro riders are using MARC there are fewer seats.

I’ve tried reaching out to MARC several times to ask them to ensure the conductors remind riders that they can only have one seat. They don’t do it. I spoke with several of the conductors and they acknowledged that it is supposed to be done.

Anybody else fed up with it? What do you do?
