Maddie in Season 9

I was re-watching season 9, getting ready for the new season, and I just didn't like Maddie's promotion plot. Her big moment of the season was getting promoted to Dispatch Manager after Sue's stroke, and I get wanting to give a character an upward trajectory, something to work towards to move towards new plots and heights, so the character doesn't peak and fall.

However, Maddie does not seem like she would have the time or energy to be running Dispatch and raising two small children, while her husband works anywhere from 12-48 hours at a time given that the show often switches up how long the 118's shifts are to fit the story.

Also, for as much as I love the show, they really should have thought about the optics of what it looks like taking a job promotion away from the more qualified queer character for a second time in two seasons, to give it to a straight character, who has less reason to want the job.

And the reason they gave for not giving the job to Josh was flimsy as hell, because Maddie knows how to delegate and ask for help. Josh has literally done Sue's job before and handled it. We've seen that Josh know this job inside and out better than Maddie does, and he has been doing twelve years longer than Maddie. It would be like promoting Ravi over Chimney.

Did anyone else seem put off by Maddie being promoted over Josh?

Saints and Sinners: Bobby Nash

I think the reason that we all love the show, outside of the outlandish emergencies and plots, are the multi-faceted characters, who drive these stories and fuel our fandom. So with this opinion game, we'll be exploring the characters and see if there is some form of consensus among the fans in a general sense. Now, these choices can be one-off decisions or something that impacted the show as a whole.

Saint: What one act or decision would classify Bobby as a saint?

Sinner: What one act or decision would classify Bobby as a sinner?

Remember agreements and disagreements are welcome. This is to open discussion up about the characters as a whole, but please be kind.

And to get this game started, here are my answers:

Saint Bobby: He gave his life to save Chimney and his crew.

Sinner Bobby: He knowingly lied to Buck and purposefully stalled his returning to work, even though the others had returned, often with more severe injuries or states of mind.

Season 9 Opinions?

I've been playing this game on the BuckTommy sub, and it's basically asking the commenters what their favorite and least favorites of a specific season are. Here are their answers. Do you agree? Disagree? And what would you change?

  1. Best Storyline: Harry becoming a firefighter and Chimney finding his footing as captain.

  2. Worst Storyline: Buck's sped-up opioid addiction and Hen's medical diagnosis.

  3. Best Episodes: Handle With Care, Pick Your Poison, and Family History

  4. Worst Episodes: War and Pick Your Poison.

An unusual overlap in choices over a long season.

  1. Best Character Arcs: Harry and Chimney for the above reasons

  2. Worst Character Arcs: Hen for all the bad decisions she made during her medical issues, May for barely having a plot, and Eddie for having his plots always secondary to everything else going on, when they should be front and center.

Worst Character Arc: Hen for her disjointed plots this season which kept her firmly in the middle of the road, Eddie for how all over the map his arc this season was and for not actually talking about the root cause of his and Christopher's issues, Buck and Tommy for a breakup that made no sense and seemed to come out of nowhere, and Buck's behavior during Eddie's move.

Opinions on Season Four

I've been playing this game on the BuckTommy sub, and it's basically asking the commenters what their favorite and least favorites of a specific season are. Here are their answers. Do you agree? Disagree? And what would you change?

  1. Best Storyline Season 4: Maddie's pregnancy and all of the ensuing drama with her parents, Buck and the Daniel stuff, Jee's birth, Chimney's fear during the pandemic, and Hen and Karen fostering Nia.

A bit controversial, but some liked the issues between Bobby and Athena near the end of the season, and others disliked them.

  1. Worst storyline: Eddie and the Munchausen kid, Eddie and Ana's relationship for being dull, and Hen's medical school stuff for going nowhere in the end.

  2. Best episodes: There Goes the Neighborhood, Buck Begins, Jinxed, Blindsided, and Survivors.

Treasure Hunt was controversial because some listed it as their favorite and others listed it as their least favorite.

  1. Worst episodes: Breaking Point and 9-1-1, What's Your Grievance?

  2. Best character arcs: May for coming into her own at dispatch and Buck for going to therapy and learning about himself and his past, and finally confronting his parents.

  3. Worst character arcs: Eddie and Ana for having no chemistry, Buck and Taylor's good friendship turning romantic, and using Albert for plot when you could have used Ravi in his introduction season.

  6. Worst character arcs: Michael and his tumor, Maddie trying to help the abuse victim, and Eddie's rage and the fight club, while not really dealing with the underlying issues of his grief.

So, do you agree? Disagree? What would you change?
