How hard is it to enter UK rail Signalling & Telecoms / Maintenance roles as a complete beginner?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to switch into UK rail and I’m interested in two roles: Operative (Signalling & Telecoms) – Fast Track Technician and Operative (Signalling Maintenance) from Network Rail
I currently have no rail experience. I’m trying to understand how realistic it is to get into these roles as a complete beginner.
Are these roles truly entry-level / suitable for career changers, or is it very competitive and mostly selected from internal candidates or people with experience?
Any advice on the recruitment process, training pathway, or chances of success would be really appreciated. Thanks.
