Transit Accommodation Strict Timing
Our original premium flight from ATQ to DOH arrived 1 hour 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, this resulted in a real world 8+ hour layover vs. the 7 hour 40 minute layover as per transit schedule.
Upon arriving at the transfer desk, I’ve been told that the transit accommodation is system issued based upon scheduled arrival with no way around to modify this manually despite arriving earlier, transfer desk agent whilst polite could neither confirm or deny the fact we arrived earlier than the schedule time oddly.
Penultimately, settled for a quiet room in garden lounge north for 6 hours. It’s not a flat bed to rest your head but cheaper than paying $385 for the Oryx Airport, arriving at the crack of dawn, the thought of a 20 minute Uber and then checking in to the Westin equivalent for similar money for 6 hours in the dry heat of middle May it’s not worth the time or effort when exhausted. However, check in via business class with hand luggage only is ridiculously fast, I was airside in less than 10 minutes on a previous layover from entering departure hall, clearing security and immigration.
On a previous layover of 20+ hours, we were told that Oryx Garden is reserved for families. We were provided entry visas and put up in the Millennium Downtown Doha with return transfers bookable every hour in private car, hotel credit (breakfast and lunch) to use in their lobby cafe or restaurant. The accommodation itself was tired and closer to 3 or 4 stars than the 5 stars it claims, but it was clean, breakfast was Middle Eastern and whilst edible/passable it was limited in its selection. The lobby cafe serves pastries and bean coffee which was the saving grace. Uber is inexpensive as it is too hot to walk outside from past visits.
The only annoying thing above the quiet lounges is the lack of soundproofing as they have a glassdoor and you can hear foot traffic, people talking loudly, not respecting the quiet room etiquette.
